Off the top of my head from apps that I use, my banking app and Google have been using biometrics for years for commerce. I'm sure there are others. You are either ignorant or obtuse.

This is nothing new. They had installed one of these readers in my Whole Foods store in Seattle right before I left in 2021. There were a few customers eager to sign up to use it, but most did not.

Is there a way to think this is a very bad idea but not think it's a sign of biblical end times?

You are simply identifying yourself to your device. Your device must be used to make the purchase. That's been around for a few years now.

Walking into a store with no card, no paper, no device, etc and scanning a part of your body - especially your hand in this context - to complete a transaction is new.

I know you can't understand subtlety though.

1. Amazon can **** right off with this technology
2. How do you"take the mark" if it's just your body part you were born with?
3. I don't see how a palm print is very secure. You walk around with your palm exposed and you touch hundreds of surfaces a day with it. Seems like we aren't far away from scanners that could read your palms without your knowledge and then some Nigerian Prince empties your bank account.
4. Once again this is intrusive dangerous technology that nobody with good intentions asked for. Carrying a credit card just isn't a problem for most people.

Yes, I use credit cards too for virtually every purchase. Personal and business. But I and everyone else has the option to use cash. A cashless society completely eliminates the cash option. And don't think for a minute that's a good thing. When every transaction becomes electronic, every transaction will be taxed. Garage sales, facebook marketplace, selling some baby cloths to a coworker. And then the government can also control your spending. Do some reading up on Chinas Social Credit Score. That's where this is all headed.

Ok, I stand corrected. We are not prevented from using cash - a true cashless society - we can simply function without it now. I honestly don't remember the last time I used cash. Even when buying and selling stuff on Facebook marketplace, I use Venmo or Zelle.

I don't know how technically Amazon is implementing this, and I agree it's ridiculous if biometric payment is their ONLY form of payment in these stores. But there's some misunderstood of biometrics on your phone on this thread that I want to clear.

Your fingerprint reader (on your phone, not Uncle Sam's when you're getting processed at MEPS or prison) does NOT link your info to some big database in the cloud. It is entirely stored locally on the device; when you register a print or face scan, the phone will stash that information on a locked down, secure operating system (completely apart from the rest of Android OS, running parallel). Then, when you log in to your bank app or whatever, when you scan your finger, it will verify that against the print you stored locally on that secure OS. Once it's stored, it can only ever be accessed on that device when verifying. This is why you cannot transfer biometric data when you change phones.

Short of it being, if hating big tech was preventing you from using biometric verify on your phone, it doesn't work the way you think. It's actually a very personally secure form of verification. But on the topic of Amazon stores, no clue, Amazon sucks though so I wouldn't shop there either way.

If you're worried about the government having eyes on you/knowing where you are, you should probably get off the internet and get rid of your smartphone
