Disney stock hits its lowest point in over 5 years.

BREAKING: CEO Bob Iger Considering Selling Streaming Services and Other Assets, May Even Try to Sell Entire Disney Company

Quote:

Disney's streaming services have been losing money and subscribers Disney+ lost 4 million subscribers last quarter. Streaming is expected to have hit a total loss of $800 million in the third quarter.

...

Iger wants to hang onto ESPN, but is looking for a partner for the sports network. Potential partners include sports companies and Apple.

Speaking of Apple, there have been rumors since Iger's return last November that he will sell all of Disney to the tech company. At the time, Iger called these rumors "nothing more than speculation," but the sale seems to still be a possibility.

Two options:

1. Assume it is a result of DeSantis if it makes you feel better.
2. Dig a little and see what is really behind it across all content providers in the streaming world. The days of a small handful of big players owning content are over. Wild and fast evolution. Interesting that the writers and actors are acting like the biz model is from 15 years ago.

Disney's market cap (total value in the stock market) is only $160 billion. Considering their history and assets, you'd think it would be a lot more than that. Apple usually has more than that in cash, but hasn't carried that much cash on hand in years (4-5), so they can't buy them outright.

Think about it: Twitter was supposedly worth 1/4 of what Disney is worth. A totally worthless concept compared to (what was or should be) an American icon.

I don't think anyone thinks DeSantis has anything to do with it. It's that they are losing their ass making movies that no one wants to see.

Don't forget how they ruined ESPN. ESPN should operate like a money printer.

You have to exclude 2020. That makes no sense to use that date since everything crashed.

It's been almost 10 years since the stock has been this low.

A decade of gain wiped out!

As a Disney shareholder I hope they turn it around and they will.

As a parent, I'm thrilled to see they're suffering for their ridiculous content decisions of late.

As much as I like DeSantis and hate wokism, I think Disney has just spent too much money and squeezed out as much as they can from all their IPs.

Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar/Disney animation, ESPN, etc. have all generated as much as they can and its not enough. They are all also very expensive. Hell they have probably killed general interest in SW and soon Marvel imo.

They are cannibalizing their IPs to the bone. I don't think little mermaid live action works whether Ariel is black or white. No one cares about background characters from SW or Marvel C listers.

Buying fox stuff and spending billions on streaming haven't paid off either.

Which brings up my obvious hope; Elon Musk takes an interest and ends the woke era at Disney with a flash. Streaming content now available on twitter only, ending cable bundles, Epcot converted to spacex stuff with boring company etc. in a reboot, with a line out to Kennedy Space Center from Orlando somehow. Every employee at ABC news fired immediately.

I can dream.

Somewhere along the way, they stopped listening to the people regarding what they wanted and instead decided they would determine what the people should want and gave them that. For some reason, that plan didn't work out for them.

Florida has droves of new taxpayers flooding the state. They are not paying a price.

It's not all about money. I'd rather be poor and decent, than rich and degenerate like your fellow libs.

That was something Disney did not want or need. Iger never wanted it, his successor did, and when Iger came back, he immediately canceled it.

It had nothing to do with DeSantis.

I think DeSantis has a little to do with it. After all, he shined a very bright spotlight on the policies, principles and people of the beast.
But much more important is Disney in their losses is their internal decisions to Bud Light themselves, putting woke advocacy over their reaching core audience and the quality of their product, saying fu to their stockholders, engaging in politics over entertainment, hiring based on DEI over merit, etc.
Until they get their reason for being straightened out, I don't see them bouncing back.

I used to give Disney over $100/month for Disney+, Hulu live, & espn+

Now I give them $10 in may/June for college baseball postseason

Anecdotal sure, but I'm willing to bet there is a big chunk of middle America that has just had it with their woke bull**** & attacking kids

Honestly they should be sued by their shareholders

They have been. One of the allegations in the suit includes that Disney was cooking the books on Disney+ by shifting costs to other Disney entities.

This. We stopped watching certain things over time because they just started to suck. ESPN is the primary example. Their stance on Florida politics just made it a bit easier to end the few dollars we were still spending.

ESPN a former sports network yet as you have rightly pointed out is just a leftists political network that has sports.

The only good Star Wars that Disney has done is Rogue One, The Mandalorian (until they got political and fired Gina Carano) and Bad Batch. The rest has been at best okay and at worst total garabge.

But as long as there are enough Star Wars fan boys out there who will watch anything, they will keep making it.
