Honest question, why wouldn't the average temperature stay the same year round? Does the southern hemisphere not get as cold in the winter as the northern?
Southern Hemisphere climates tend to be slightly milder than those at similar latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, except in the Antarctic which is colder than the Arctic. This is because the Southern Hemisphere has significantly more ocean and much less land; water heats up and cools down more slowly than land.
Also has something to do with ocean currents & circulation or at least I thought I read that somewhere. Same reason the west coast is cold water ocean and the east coast is warm.

57 (Fahrenheit) in London this morning with a high of 72/73 expected. I can confirm that global cooling is out of control. Expect to see wooly mammoths grazing in Hyde Park if this keeps up.

i saw this crap going around yesrterday.

Most recent days in the south Texas borderlands, the wet bulb temperature hits 92-93 at this time of dayclose to fatal levels.

Wikipedia: "A reading of 95 F… is considered the theoretical human survivability limit for up to 6 hours of exposure."

Wtf is this crap? In high school I was playing tennis in the sun in temperatures higher than that for 12 hours a day. Not to mention hard courts are 10-15 degrees hotter than outside temperatures.

The summer before I started at A&M I took a tennis class at a West Texas community college to get some PE credits out of the way. It was at 5:00PM which I took because I also had a part time job. Agree, those courts were hot as hell.

Huh? These people have never cut timber or worked outside in East Texas in August.

A high of 95 is a decent cool day. Pretty much always 95% humidity and 101+

They would be shocked to see people survived roofing and pouring concrete in those conditions I suppose

Every global warming religious nut should change their name to chicken little

Maybe I'm just a super hero?

No that I'm defending their paranoia and drama, but this is wet bulb temperature, not air temp or feels like.

For reference, current temp in Houston is 97-101, humidity around 45%, dew point around 72, feels like of 111-116 (depending on the site). Estimated wet bulb temp is 90. Couldn't find a weather site that actually monitors and displays wet bulb temp, though, so this is a calculation.

Wet-bulb temperature of 90 deg F is roughly equiv to a heat index of 130 deg F

Not here to defend or deny issues with climate change but they clearly stated they are talking about "wet-bulb" temperature.

Wet-bulb temperature is highly dependent on humidity. If humidity is 100% then wet-bulb temp equals dry bulb temp.

As an example a dry bulb (ie acutal measured temp) of 101F along with relative humidity of 70% will give you a wet-bulb temp of 92F. It is VERY unusual, even in Houston, for the relatively humidity to be that high as the temp peaks out in the upper 90's or higher. RH drops as the temp rises. We may be above 90% RH in the morning, but closer to 50% as the temp peaks on a hot day with no rain.

110F dry bulb and 50% RH also results in a 92F wet bulb. That is damn hot.

Looking at the forecast for the next 24 hrs in Houston, at 6 am (7/19) the temp will be 80F and the RH will be around 86% (wet-bulb = 76.6 F). later in the afternoon the temp will peak around 99 with an RH of 48% (wet-bulb = 82.5 F)

There is no need to go back to the Eemian to find warmer temperatures.

The Earth was warmer, on average, earlier in the Holocene. At that time, it was so warm that sea levels were supposedly about 6 or 7 feet higher than today.

I must be superhuman as well. Many summers bailing hay in an open cab tractor, many summers pouring concrete on some 40+ hour foundation pours. (all at 98-100+ degree days) I knew there was something special about me!
Yeah. I used to sit out on a tractor from early morning until dark no matter what the temperature. Hot was much better than cold.

Not only out on the tractor, but most days I wouldn't feel any need to drink water. I usually got enough at breakfast and lunch to last me for hours.

I'm not positive, but I have seem someone wrap a wet cloth around a special thermometer tied to a rope not much bigger than string and then holding on to the rope swing the thermometer around quickly in the air in circles of about four to six feet long. He would keep that up for a minute, then stop and read the temperature on the bulb.

People who have stood countless hours of watch and done maintenance in an engine room, on a navy ship, in the Persian gulf or south China sea laugh at those wet bulb temps. When ambient is greater than 90, we are required to do heat stress surveys and the wet bulb will determine potential stay times. My deployments in the south China sea were consistently 92-97 wet bulb, and yet no one died after 6+ hours. These people are ****ing idiots.

You described a DYI sling psychrometer. Video shows a cheap commercially available version and how it's used.
