So if I'm following this correctly, a dean who is fully bought into the DEI agenda (Bermudez) tried pushing through a DEI hire (McElroy) but couldn't get the regents to approve.
The issue was that the regents might not approve her tenure. It never came up formally because she never signed a contract.

At her big ceremony, she signed an offer letter and then found out later there was a lot of pushback about her appointment.

Bermudez then offered a contract without tenure, which would have avoided regent approval, and then later reduced the length of her agreement.

Throughout the process, Bermudez reportedly told her that "outside influences" were against her and suggested her race was the reason.

McElroy wasted no time to play that angle too for money. It was incredibly stupid. I guess Bermudez thought she was his friend and he found out that wasn't the case. Road kill.
The fact that she immediately pulled out the UR RACIST card shows that she probably was not going to be a good hire for A&M.

It would have likely been her goto anytime she got pushback working for us...
Yeah I think we dodged a bullet.
Trump will fix it.
one safe place

Looks like a double win for A&M.

Not that the university needs more bloat and overhead, but I still question the wisdom of combining the colleges of classical hard sciences with liberal arts. What does chemistry and biology have to do with journalism and sociology?

It's about competing with other large Tier 1 universities, who have combined "Arts and Sciences" colleges whose departments form the basis of a classical education rooted in the study of the liberal arts and the sciences. Combining them allowed the new big college to be more on par with the other large colleges, i.e. Ag and Engineering, to make administrative overhead more efficient, and resource competition more fair.

Right ... he tells her all this stuff behind the scenes, unconcerned that she is well-connected to lots of media folks and is an actual financial supporter of the Texas Tribune.

Before he knew what hit him, she had shared all her notes from their conversations with reporters.

Bermudez is a clown and good riddance. He is the one who pushed for this fiasco and then set it on fire with what he told McElroy.

He tried to end run the BOR.
This is like a principal hiring a head coach without Supt or board approval.
Of course it happened to a person who has no ideas but that life has sheet on her because she is black. Too bad she can't be like rest of us folks who don't get the job because our ideas don't gel with management.
