Just attended my local 4th of July parade. One of my sons was in it and my wife and daughter were volunteering at it. Good parade to celebrate America's birthday for the most part. Except for the handful of lbgqtia++ floats who of course took the opportunity to use America's Independence Day for some political messaging. Lots of signs from them like "I'm with the banned" and "Read banned books" and "Reading ALL books is real freedom" as they handed out their rainbow trans flags instead of American flags.

My news and my social media feeds tell me that conservative state houses are trying to get porn like gender queer out of public elementary school libraries.

Is my news wrong and if so, what exactly are the queers and trans people so upset about that they have to push it at our 4th of July parade?

A. They have to be upset or they have nothing to live for. Activists need something to be pissed about just to get out of bed. It's a sad life.

B. Keeping books that suggests sexual explicit activities or suggestions about sexuality out of kids libraries is not "banning" books. Parents are free to let their kids read these books. They are however not free to promote it to other minors.

Some schools have banned LGBTQ material that they deemed age inappropriate. LGBTQ types are upset that descriptions of their sexual behavior can't be made available to young children. Of course, this ban only applies to a few schools and their literature can be consumed everywhere else. They are behaving in their usual manner when they don't get their way: lying completely about what is actually happening.

The LGBTQ books are the most banned but others like The Bible and other more reasonable books have been banned as well.

To further clarify - it wasnt the schools (generally) that removed the books from the library. The schools put them there to begin with.

It was the parents that pay the taxes and elect the school boards that demanded the books aimed at telling 5 year olds that chopping your pecker off is ok be removed from the school libraries.

And those parents are heroes.

Removing such porno content from a school library is not banning no matter how much the left cries.

If it's still available at a public library or for purchase, it's clearly not banned. If someone wants it, go get it there.

Historically, some books have been limited or banned for non adults except now it's become a political hot topic pushed by conservative agenda against gays. This red meat works for the GOP primary but will face non-conservative pushback on a national election. What you witnessed was some of the reactionary pushback and expect more as the 2024 election approaches.

Parents should be controlling their school board in monitoring what books are to be available to kids. Leave big government out of it.

Inappropriate sexual content should be removed from school libraries. But I don't really care about their position on banned books. It should be a discussion and debate.

My issue is passing out pride flags during a 4th of July parade. My God they are insufferable.

Take a break from your political religion and celebrate your country! They had a whole month and this is just one day.

They are one-dimensional and define themselves by their sexuality. Constantly seeking affirmation that they are normal, when they are not. They have but one thing to celebrate and that is their sexuality.

TKAM was not in our kid's Junior High Library. We asked that they be loaned the book from the high school library, and they were.

And it was not in our local Jr. High library due to adult content and themes.

We felt like our kids could handle it.

I mean, the left can ban literary classics like To Kill a Mockingbird because a black man needing a heroic white knight attorney like Atticus Finch to defend him is harmful, but it's those evil conservatives who ban the gay sex books at public elementary school libraries that need to be lectured at 4th of July parades. That's how it feels to me, but maybe I'm missing something because my news is different. We live in two different worlds these days.

His teacher did not like he was reading a book about a family that was murdered and the surviving toddler was raised by ghosts in a nearby graveyard.


It has been listed as one of the best YA novels in decades

Also, this was his teacher that hated how quickly he finished her work.

I like that he is now getting into AP and honors classes.

i don't care if lqbgiaq+ are in the parade. I just don't know why this particular parade on this particular day is one to lecture about whatever it is you're mad about today and push anything but the American flag into kids' hands on this one particular day. We had a delightful conversation where I told her I taught and I would never let my kids think I didn't love them to bits. That if they suggested books, I read them and that my son was not missing recess for reading a book brought from home because he finished the math test in a few minutes.

He literally never missed a math question from 3rd-5th.
So when he was told to stop drawing so much he began reading Ready Player One followed by the first Percy Jackson and then The Graveyard Book

Smart and smart mouthed white kids are a problem for many in elementary


That 5th grade teacher was horrible.
Glad she is gone from the district
