Gotta wonder what the Busch family thinks about all this. Probably laughing their asses off.
There's a GREAT book - 'Dethroning The King' about the hostile takeover by InBev. Busch family was so old school rich - commuting to work via helicopter landings on the roof, mahogany & leather everywhere, just oozing excess everywhere.
The InBev CEO flew up in a regular plane, wore blue jeans and stayed at like a Holiday Inn. Busch's didn't take him seriously, and the rest is history.
Having said that, I'd love to see old money's reaction to this woke BS.
Once upon a time I was working for a small company shopping itself to some bigger companies. The company owner was the son of the founder and was looking to cash in and live the idle rich lifestyle. He managed to talk a potential buyer into hosting his engineering staff (me included) on a private Bahamian island estate for a few days. Everybody with a place on this island was filthy rich. I was told that the minimum annual lease was a million/year and this was '89. Anyways, I was talking to this guy at one of the evening parties who introduced himself as "Augie". Seemed like a decent guy based on the 5 minutes of conversation we had. Was at some medical waiting room a few months later and was looking for a magazine to peruse until they called and spotted a Business Week cover with Augie's picture & a headline that read "August Busch III Plots the Course of the Anheiser Busch Companies". I honestly had no idea when I met him. And yes, he was drinking a Bud while we were talking. I think we were the only two people drinking beer on the island.
