Something I read from one of the twitter feeds on page 1 said narco-cartels, many from South America, have heavily armed these groups over the years. It goes on to say that some far right groups might join police forces in the fight, but that it is very doubtful they have the weaponry to match. Not sure how true that is, just relaying what was reported. The french will tolerate a lot, but not interference with the TDF. The vast majority of the race will be in extremely rural areas and this year's route doesn't get within 180 miles of Paris until the last day, which ends about 120 miles from Paris. I would be surprised if the Muslims in the Paris ghettos would be interested in trying to go that far to make a point that they can make closer to home with a burning police car.
