After reading the article, I actually have little beef with it. At least the AMA is still calling out being fat as very unhealthy. Sort of surprised they haven't abandoned that science yet.

I did laugh at them basically saying Asians>Whites>Blacks from unhealthy to healthy.

I went to Disneyland last week and Dodger Stadium today.

Everybody is fat but there are certain demographic groups who seem to have a higher prevalence of being gigantic.

BMI is a standard invented by White people for White people.

Why do White people have to make up standards for other people?
If those people want more accurate standards then they should do the work themselves instead
of relying on White people and their culture.

BMI is a population based standard and it acknowledges that variations in body structure will make it more or less applicable to any given individual, but it does give a rough idea of what is healthy versus possibly overweight so that any individual might consider a more detailed look at their actual individual health.

We are all Homo Sapiens and though there are outlier individuals and populations that aren't on center, we really are generally most healthy when we are relatively light for our height. We can survive long enough to successfully reproduce being overweight but it does affect longevity and quality of life as we age on average. There are populations with thinner or stockier builds that will be outside the norm when at still healthy weights but it would be unwise to try to normalize populations that tend to simply be overweight due to cultural practices as it would do them a disservice when diagnosing health concerns.

To be fair, BMI doesn't work for a lot of people, white or otherwise. When doing my physical testing for the Navy, I always tested overweight (BMI 31), despite the fact I was about 8% body fat at the time. I'd have to go to the fatty line and take my shirt off and do all the measurement stuff. I always got a good laugh from the reactions of the medical personnel doing the fat people stuff when I got in that line.
