Unless they are stuck in the wreckage itself or stuck at the ocean floor almost directly adjacent to the wreckage, I doubt they will ever be found. And this is a boat that would regularly get lost for hours at a time.
That capsule is going to be really hard to find if it "pops up". Why didn't they paint that thing bright yellow or orange?

Its interesting and I wonder if there is something behind the colors. The international orange may be reserved for life boats. Most deep submersibles appear in either yellow or white variants. Just spitballing.

It was a capsule of death

Dude bought a $35 controller and bought parts from Camper World to put this trash together. Just seems really rinky dinky

If it does pop up, it'll probably eventually wash ashore somewhere?

However, its highly likely the critical failure was the part of the craft they spend the most money on.

Such a small chance they survive.

My prayers have turned to giving their families and friends, peace and acceptance.

Read somewhere that if they lost power and were sitting at the bottom of the ocean, it would be complete darkness and about 34 degrees inside that thing. Nothing but cold, dark madness and confusion. And people paid hundreds of thousands for the risk of that.

This borders more on dumbassery than it does accidental tragedy.

And condensation. Water drops form and drop onto them.

More cold.

Say they do find them deep in the water now. Is it safe to swiftly bring them to the surface? Is decompression while being in the sub a concern?

Say they found them right now, there's no time to bring them up in time with the available oxygen left on board. These dudes are gunners if they haven't already been dead since Sunday.

Why don't they just go to the Titanic wreckage and look for the capsule. I'm sure other crazy rich people would view this as an opportunity to take their pod down their and be the first to find the ocean gate capsule

I think there will be a lot of questions as to why they didn't do a lot of things.

And I don't think they went down with any food. I think they were giving a pee bottle, water bottle (1), and plastic bags. Maybe one sandwich but I don't think so.

You pack more to go to the park down the street then what they were carrying.

I really wonder why James Cameron's sub from the Mariana wasn't sent down Monday.

It has to be loaded on a ship and sailed out to the spot. There's no telling where it is. This isn't something that you can just pop in and go.

Anyone else go backpacking in the 80s? Do you know how much stuff you can hold in one? How much food and water?

That craft is small, granted, but Geez they could have packed food and water, right?

I am a bit curious given the Camping World mentions if they went woke toilet for $1,150.99 (https://www.campingworld.com/ogo-compost-toilet-140280.html?cgid=toilets) or Hunter's Delight for $18.99 (https://www.campingworld.com/reliance-luggable-loo-portable-toilet-277044.html?cgid=toilets).

I mean, I really do not get the overall design of this "vehicle". Feels like going over NIagara Falls in a barrel type stunt.

I've worked around incredibly successful narcissists most my career. I'm pretty familiar with these types of egos.

That said, I knew there would be at least one person taking issue with that comment. Two things can be true at the same time. The adults that signed off are responsible. But none of this happens if the CEO doesn't put on a song and dance about how cool and innovative his approach is. They're all culpable, but he's the primary asshat here. That's all I was trying to say.

Eta: this guy actually reminds me of a financial scam artist. As investors or even gambling degenerates, we all know the risks with any investment. We know we are responsible. But the Bernie Madoffs of the world can still be the main culprits in these fiascos.
The interviews I have seen of him seems like he was obsessed with the sub and going to depth and that was all that mattered.

He definitely did not come off as a technical expert and it seemed like whenever a technical expert put a road block in front of him he made the decision to go around it without properly considering the risks of ignoring the advice.

One thing I am seeing is that this sub had been at or near its max depth many times without proper non destructive testing to see if the integrity of the pressure vessel was still in tact. If they are not checking the pressure vessel to verify its ocean worthiness what else is not getting checked?

If the boat is recovered in one piece, and the crew is not alive I am deeply saddened by the terror they would have had to endure. If the rescue crews really are hearing taps it sounds like the sub lost power or was tangled in the wreckage.

And they probably were lightly clothed due to the radiant heat of others and electronics in such a small space for what was supposed to be a relatively short time frame, and to save space. Might have died of hypothermia already. Surprised at only 34 degrees at that depth and pressure, which keeps ice from forming.

This YouTuber documented his trip to the titanic in this video.this really gives you a good sense of what it's like inside of the submersible.

At 6:30 in the video, they lose communication with the surface ship. At 2,000 meters deep. They drop a ballast to begin ascending, but comms miraculously return, and they decide to continue to the bottom. Additionally, the external spot lights are flickering the whole time and don't seem reliable.

He says there were a number of issues, (hospitality and safety) and he wouldn't recommend it until they can improve their process.

He says the recovery is very complex and that the last mission spent 27 hours inside of the submersible. I assume they reached the surface and had to be found or took a while to recover.

I used YouTube translated closed captions to watch. When he mentions security, I assume he means safety. He says there are aspects that are neglected.
