Elections are when people find out what politicians stand for, and politicians find out what people will fall for.

I think there's an opportunity for an outsider to buy Bud Light on the cheap, advertise the change in ownership heavily ("we rescued an iconic brand from the un-American freaks and are back on track") and hopefully get a good return on their investment if they can get it to rebound. I guess they'd have to take Budweiser too as a package deal. I can't imagine the two brands being separated.

I heard on a podcast this morning that the new era of leadership at many of these companies don't mind losing some money if it means they can virtue signal and get a good ESG score. They have a mindset that the good ESG score is actually more important to investors and the public than a higher profit margin.

Until, of course, it isn't.

Problem is...the beer still sucks, and now the customer base is realizing there are other options out there that don't suck as bad. They can't reverse that.

Modelo's television campaign focuses on tough guys/women who made their mark doing interesting things. It's gritty, with low lighting and haunting music, and features mostly minorities.

The tag line is "Fighting Spirit," which is the polar opposite of Bud Light and Dylan.

I'm not surprised it's working.

You don't think Dylan had the "Fighting Spirit" when he was splashing around like a manic nutcase in that bathtub?

ESG metrics are currently on par with financial metrics in importance for overall company health. Go look at AB's 2022 10k and prepare to be blown away by the emphasis on ESG. It defines their vision and mission at this point. It's a very slick piece of propaganda.

Unpossible!

Concerned Moderate told us that there was nothing to be Concerned about here and that Bud Lite is totally unaffected by our boycotts and is the strongest, most profitable brand in beer now that they reap the fruits of wokeness

Yup.

The financial world is so eaten up with ESG that you stand to lose more money in higher cost of capital than the money you actually lose in revenue and/or margin.

It is insidious insertion of Marxism within the financial institutions.

I say that, but of the big 3, I'll take a Miller Lite first.

Trump endorsing Bud Light is probably the only thing that could save that brand.

Serious answer? Because they're looking farther ahead than right now. Bud Light's customer base is largely working class men that skew conservative, but marketing to them is not sustainable forever because they're also older, being compromised mostly of millennials and gen x'ers. In 10-20 years, a large portion of them may be dead or drinking less, and their place in the market will be filled by gen z'ers in their early 20's to late 30's. They are in many ways more liberal and not swayed by the same messaging as Bud Light's other core demographics.

The leading edge of that market segment, currently in their early 20's, is not as interested in beer, and especially corporate labels like Bud Light, as previous generations. They're trending more towards flavored seltzers or craft beers. Bud Light isn't trying to sell more beer today, per se, they're trying not to lose the next generation to other products or brands. They see themselves as needing to craft a new image for the next generation of drinkers.

I think they certainly went about that the wrong way and chose the worst timing and path possible, but the thought process and direction make sense when you consider decision making on a strategic time horizon.

That bud light was every anyone's beer of choice just tells you how poor taste people have. Modelo, and pretty much any Mexican beer, should've had those sales all this time.

thats exactly it. when you see that all these corps are majority owned by the same small few, you realize their investors can always print more money to give them. they've got to walk the line though with the social credit score to have access to that debt.

Modelo is not owned by AB in the USA. So yall need to get that out of your heads

Constellation owns the rights. They produce the bottles for it but I do think AB still sells them the beer but I do not know that for sure

Constellation brands makes the bottles and gets the profit, it does not help AB much at all, it basically just keeps the brewery busy

Yep, and again, go check out their 10k and you will see where they are headed. They have a host of new products they are testing and prepping for the coming demographic changes.

In particular, the men and non-men younger than Gen X do not drink at the levels we do. Providing alcohol free options is becoming a significant segment. The sheer number of options for drinking combined with the rise in MJ usage is dramatically changing the landscape.

IMO, the big three were dead men walking before this PR blunder happened.

I agree. I had to reread the misogynist's woman hating sentence three times before I realized it was not a joke.

If they don't hate women why do they not create a new classification, men, women, and non-men?

It is also weird that they love men so much they don't even have a thing for women that become non-women. Freaking haters.

I'd just started to appreciate Modelo before the Bud Light BS after years of typically drinking pricier and often higher ABV beers. I quickly looked up the AB brands and was glad I hadn't become pot committed "this is my daily drinker" to Modelo or any other AB brands.

OK...I find it really hard to believe that Modelo outsells MIller and Coors by nearly 50%. Maybe this is on revenue?

Edit: Greg Gallagher, vice president of brand marketing for New York-based Constellation, told CNN that Modelo has been "enjoying an incredible run of success" for the past several years and said that it wants to replicate the dominance it has with Hispanic drinkers with more demographics. "Our growth is in maintaining that core but also bringing in non-Hispanic customers, and we're having incredible success."

So it was number #1 in May, likely due to Cinco de Mayo

I see more Modelo commercials than all other beers. They are for sure spending a lot of $$ pushing that brand hard and have been over the past 1-2 years.

The Modelo Oro is trash FYI, don't try it. Like 3.0 abv with 90 cals, just do Miller Light or Coors Light.

OP chart may have something to do with the calendar as well. I think certain beers see an uptick in early May.
