Thank you sir. Very powerful.

Listened to King George VI. What a humble King asking his nation and all peace loving people to pray.

A man who was terrified to speak in public, did it any way with humility and grace.

I am not sure there exist any national leaders any where that have that sort of humility. Maybe that is why they were "The Greatest Generation" and we have become something else.

One thing that has always impressed me is that then Princess Elizabeth worked as a mechanic during the war.

My great-uncle dropped out of A&M to join the Air Force. We didn't find out until after his death that he flew cover over Sword Beach on D-Day, and had written about having a front-row seat to one of the biggest events in world history.

So thankful for those who sacrificed. Truly a special generation of people.

My parents married July 3, 1941 in Ft. Davis, TX. January 1942 my dad enlists in the Army and fairly quickly is shipped to north Africa under Patton. My mother went to work at the Army Air Base between Marfa and Alpine which was located right about where the new viewing station is for the Marfa Lights.

My dad went ashore in Sicily but I don't think went into Italy.

On D Day went ashore on Utah Beach, then went through the Battle of the Bulge. Was awarded a Silver Star.

His story was like tens of thousands of other young American men. Then they came home and built the USA into the world power and greatest economy anyone has ever seen. They truly were the Greatest Generation.

This may not be the place for this, but I cannot help but contrast the generation we now have of 18 to 30 years olds with the Greatest Generation. It makes my wife and me pray for our country every day. May God continue to bless the USA.

And we should all be thankful for the Greatest Generation.

They should make a movie about the Filthy 13......not a movie based on them "Dirty Dozen".

IMHO, the sacrifice of the town of Bedford, VA sums up perfectly this greatest of generations. 35 men from a town of less than 4000 were all in the same company of the 29th Infantry Division. By fate, their company, Company A, 116th Infantry, 29th Infantry Divisin would be in the first wave at Omaha beach. 19 men would be killed before the end of June 6th and another 4 would fall before the end of the Normandy campaign. God bless them for their sacrifices.

Eric76, I have not agreed with you on this board and thrown a little (not much) heat your way, however, we may not always agree but I will give you credit for this post with these links. Greatness here.

I will not have the wife and kiddos around in a couple of weeks and have an entire weekend to listen to these and BBQ for myself, smoking nice cigars and imbibing. This will be better than sports on TV while I do. Can't wait.

Maybe the only time I do, but kudos to you.
