I think there are a lot of potential GOP contenders that are thinking:
1 - A majority of the party does not want Trump.
2- There's a chance the more people see of Desantis, the more they dislike him
3- Even if Desantis gets the nod, someone has to be his VP
4- It's a long time until the primaries, who knows what happens along the way…can't win if you don't play.

Campaigning is a grift. It's all about the skin. Hire your entire family and overpay them for doing nothing and then you drop out eventually and reap your rewards.

Maxine Waters daughter has been on the constant six figure campaign salary for years, and since house members run every two years they are in constant campaign mode.
