Anyone that believes in freedom should support the repeal of prohibitions against both. It makes no sense that pro 2A people support MJ prohibition and vice versa. They're both wedge issues that the respective parties use fear mongering to gain voters that buy in to their reefer madness style propaganda. There's zero reason any law abiding citizen should not be able to purchase any plant or gun they choose.

So you are fine with Opium Poppy and Coca plant just being sold at Home Depot ?

Sounds like a great idea...

Do you think anything is prioritized right now? Politicians don't do poop. They simply grandstand on camera to their echo chambers for perpetual reelection campaigning.

Sure, that would likely be a civil liability for home depot, but if they're willing to take the risk then that would be their right to do so. Assuming state law allows them to do so. The federal prohibitions are unconstitutional and should go away. The state laws should be decided by the voters of their states as long as they don't infringe on constitutional rights. Voters that care about freedom should vote against MJ prohibitions, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll have the majority. Prohibitions on guns are clearly unconstitutional at the federal, state, and local level.

Refining those plants into the final product would also be a competely different legal scenario, that would likely remain illegal in most states.

I think Patrick is wrong on this. I think it should be legalized for adult use. Regulate it, tax it, and restrict sales to anyone under 21.

That said, I'm not a one issue voter. The conservative platform on things like violent crime, proper police funding, keeping taxes and regulation low, and promoting business and free enterprise growth and expansion are the most important issues for me. That's why I am a conservative voter. I'd vote for a different candidate from Patrick in the primary, but it's unlikely he'd be defeated there. I will not vote for a Democrat in the general election.

I'd like to see it put on the ballot. I have little doubt it would pass in a general election. I'm not sure how they'd ever get it on the ballot, though.

Patrick seems unlikely to ever change his position on this, so maybe he decides to retire, or be appointed to office in DC in a Presidential turnover.

I would love to be able to chew on coca leaves personally. Would probably provide a solid healthy boost when golfing, during the morning commute etc. They're actually good for you....certainly much healthier and safer than tobacco.

Exactly, great for working and hiking at altitudes. Ancient Peruvian practice and most of South America as well.

The industrialization of this practice is what's screwy. Coca-Cola had a yuge effect on this.

Well they could easily do all of the above but didn't do any.

No substantial border legislation, No legislation against foreign bad actors like China from continuing to buy up Texas land and properties, No legislation to improve the grid system, No legislation to give the state powers to go after election fraud.

Texas Republicans are mostly Democrats.

And the House Speaker should have been removed but wasn't!
Yep. Dade Phelan is not a republican. He needs to be removed from office, yet many here are behind his attempt to remove Paxton from office.

Wake up.

For all the people who would rather not waste time on it, why not just pass it then? Especially medical MJ?

Now we get to waste more time on it the next session, and the session after that. Like we have done the previous sessions before. The people want it, the house approved it overwhelmingly. Just get it through then you don't have to see 5 grape soda threads a month anymore.
I'm fine with them passing it (as long as they bar smoking it in public); I just don't care if they do or don't.

We can all currently get weed pretty easily and consume it with no hassle from the authorities.

Thus, I'm indifferent to it.

I mostly agree with you, but I get salty on the medicinal side. I have known epileptics who much rather prefer using MJ versus the standard drugs that are prescribed, because of the side effects make them feel absolutely horrible. Same thing with athletes who have chronic pain issues. It just seems insane to me that we are perfectly ok with letting people like Brett Favre get so addicted to pain pills that he's popping 12 Vicodin a day and destroying his liver so that he can live without pain, but crack down on other players who would rather smoke a joint to numb their aches. That being said, I know there are absolutely NFL and college players who are just doing it recreationally because it's fun, I'm not dismissing that.

I know it's a complicated issue that goes all the way to the top of big pharma, but it just seems insane to me that we can't get people on board with allowing doctors to prescribe healthier options to treat pain than what is currently allowed.

I am pro cannabis legalization and like to partake sometimes, but I am totally fine with this. When walking around urban centers where is is legal, you smell it every f-ing where. I was just in downtown Chicago the other day and you almost smelled it every few minutes walking around the business areas. In downtown LA a few years back before the pandemic it was even worse. Felt weird to walk around with colleagues and smell weed constantly.

I actually love the smell...but can see how many others would hate it and don't even want to chance breathing in super micro immaterial amounts at all.

Yeah, I'm not against medicinal MJ at all and the whole issue is hypocritical (obviously) considering alcohol and tobacco are legal. I'm probably going to need it at some point and keep fully powered and operational gummies on hand (although I rarely use them).

If access was a huge problem, then I would probably be more passionate about it being legalized. Regardless, this issue will get resolved at some point.

If put to a vote in Texas both would probably pass easily.

Is Dan Patrick supposed to represent the majority or his own personal beliefs?

Do you have young daughters? Even if hypothetical, you'd be okay with them being in a bathroom alone with a grown man you don't know and has mental delusions? Why is it okay for people like you to put my daughters in that situation?

Why do you accuse him of saying something he didn't say?

He said Patrick was fixated on bathroom laws. He didn't say he disagreed with those laws. He didn't say he supported the opposite and he damn sure didn't say it was OK to put your daughters in those situations.
