Quote:

Despite testimony from advocates about the positive effects of cannabis as medicine and bipartisan support in the House, a proposal to expand Texas' medical marijuana program appears to have met its end this legislative session.
Quote:

The bill passed out of the house 127-19, but did not get a Senate committee hearing. The Senate removed a chronic pain measure from a 2021 bill expanding the program.

A spokesperson for Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, president of the Texas Senate, did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
House did its job. Senate didn't do jack **** as usual. This is a very very modest reform. The compassionate Texans program is already a massive joke and very few Texans are able to access it as it is.

I really wish Texas had term limits because I wish we could move on from potty patrol whackos like Patrick, Abbott, and Paxton.

Dan Patrick loves choking out bills.

This failure does affect me, & it's yet another reason why I can't stand that self righteous *****!!

I'd love to vote Patrick out, but the Dems will force my hands by running some far-left fruit loop; maybe the Libertarians will offer a suitable substitute because that guy will NEVER get my vote even though I'm a staunch Conservative!!

While I do think marijuana should be legal, it is incredibly low on my priorities since our country is on the brink of fracturing.

Fix the economy, enforce the border, and stop ESG then I'll start to care more about legalizing pot.

Mike collier has run against bathroom Dan several times. He's pretty far to the right of Bernie / AOC but probably still too liberal for most folks on this board.

I think he would do a decent job and make the Texas Senate better.

F- that guy.

The good news is that even my hard core Republican highly religious, model of humanity mother had friends that knew who to talk to in her circles for obtaining weed when she became ate up with cancer and eventually died from it.

The asshats running things and handwringing over marijuana and abortions should just get over themselves and die already. All of them. Time for the old farts to head out to the farm. We're getting there but some of them seem to be taking longer than others to get gone.

Well they could easily do all of the above but didn't do any.

No substantial border legislation, No legislation against foreign bad actors like China from continuing to buy up Texas land and properties, No legislation to improve the grid system, No legislation to give the state powers to go after election fraud.

Texas Republicans are mostly Democrats.

And the House Speaker should have been removed but wasn't!

Exactly. Our current legislatures have very poor priorities that do not align with conservative ideology (or even traditional small government liberal ideology) even though they say all of the right things during election season.

The comment was more directed at the voters that keep voting for the uni-party establishment types rather than the politicians themselves. The voters are getting the exact policies they voted for, they just think they are voting for something better.

No thanks.

Good thing you will still be able to smoke your weed whenever you want with or without legalization.

For all the people who would rather not waste time on it, why not just pass it then? Especially medical MJ?

Now we get to waste more time on it the next session, and the session after that. Like we have done the previous sessions before. The people want it, the house approved it overwhelmingly. Just get it through then you don't have to see 5 grape soda threads a month anymore.

Always bear in mind that it infuriates grapesoda that we have a Lt Governor who is adamant about keeping boys and men out of girls' bathrooms and locker rooms.

Seems like common sense to me. Grape is so angry about it that he thinks giving the LtG a nickname with that is a negative for Patrick.

Growing the activists day by day, turning them into good little democrats who heed whatever they hear.

The flaws in your thinking is you forget that politicians do not serve the people. They serve themselves first.

Them not passing easy policy that the people wants gives them political capital to campaign on during the next election season.

Don't fall for it and start voting out career establishment politicians, and quit being scared of a new face that people think might not beat the big bad D.

I'm fine with them passing it (as long as they bar smoking it in public); I just don't care if they do or don't.

We can all currently get weed pretty easily and consume it with no hassle from the authorities.

Thus, I'm indifferent to it.

How come the same thought process the pro 2A folks use against modest reform of gun control laws ie "this is just a beginning. give them an inch and they will take a mile" doesn't apply to cannabis? Just sayin

The correct first step isn't "decriminalization," but rather suing the fed for their improper scheduling of MJ. As long as the DEA has it ranked above meth - it's entrapment roulette to give your residents a green light.
