Worse case scenario for GOP is Fed is cutting interest rates in 2024, economy not in a recession and stock market doing fine, proxy funded wars going on but no US soldiers dying…and GOP trots out Trump…and all the voters in the middle are thinking 'Biden is way too old and sure things could be better but Trump is just as old and more unpredictable and erratic and am I really so miserable right now to take a risk that a Trump presidency could go off the rails in a really bad way? Nah, I will just stick with Biden for 4 more years where at least I can predict where the floor is going to be '.

Because much of the GOP voter base was more infatuated with Trump as an anti-hero personality than trying to actually win a General election, and because Trump himself is more infatuated with being Trump than the GOP winning elections..

Trump could have decided not to run, endorsed somebody like DeSantis…and the Dems would probably be scrambling right now focused on trying to convince Biden not to run and on whom in a younger group of candidates could replace him.

But Trump is like comfort food to the Dems and him being the GOP candidate is their best case scenario.

Yep, should probably screenshot some older posts for reference because there will be a lot of editing.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Your worst case scenario is off by one detail. Biden won't be the Dem nominee. He'll get replaced "last minute" by a younger candidate, making the choice between a younger non-Biden Dem candidate vs old "wanna-be dictator" Trump even easier for the middle voters.

Yep. Then they put Nikki in as VP so they have an easy Uniparty option they can go to as a backup plan.

DeSantis is the only real threat, always has been.

This is just poor analysis. The issue is that at least 50% of the base is obsessed with Trump for non-policy reasons and there was nothing anybody could do to take votes from him. You can say DeSantis didn't do this or that and that's why he's losing but really he's losing because Trump runs a personality cult in the party. The Trump people don't even try to talk policy, at least not honestly. It's just about sticking it to the left or the media or to get revenge against the deep state.

Him deciding to run was always going to end in disaster for the party. If he would have politically retired and endorsed DeSantis a year ago we would be looking at a landslide victory in 2024. Instead we are headed for disaster because of his ego.

Edit: I guess we are sort of saying the same thing, I just think you're wrong that there was anything DeSantis could have said or done to take votes from Trump. Look at Vivek: he has actually lost ground as he has said more wild "water cooler subject" things, as you put it. Proves that you can't take cotes from Trump by being better at being outlandish or by being better on policy.
100% correct and accurate analysis here.

Trump could have retired in 2021 and handed the reigns to DeSantis, and then been pardoned and likely not even charged for most of his crimes

instead, he is facing jail time and leading the conservative cause to disaster due to his own lust for power and ego.

intelligent people can see this clearly.

It is what it is. Trump won't be allowed to win, even if he can, which I highly doubt. All the Dems are gonna do is let Trump be the GOP candidate, then convict him, all while keeping Biden away from the camera and any debates, then adding abortion and legalizing recreational drugs on as many ballots as possible, and then, of course, still having mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting to lean on. Finally, they have the ability to shutdown counts in certain purple states that have big Dem-run cities and counties that can be used to bring in ballots if needed.

Biden will be our President again in 2025, then they will figure out how to remove Kamala in a graceful fashion--creating a Supreme Court justice spot for her is most likely, then bringing in Gavin Newsom to be veep for the first two years, so he can take over in 2027, so he can run two more elections after that.

We are so amazingly screwed, both as a party and as a country. What lies ahead is exactly what Mao started in China and still continues to this day.

Just curious, where is there any more information/smoke about Haley and Trump doing a 1v1 debate? This tweet is the first I've heard of that being a possibility. Would be a hilariously bad look for Trump, if true.

There were rumors about that going around the last few days but Haley has now agreed to debate in Iowa against DeSantis. Would be great if Trump showed of course but I doubt it. In the meantime DeSantis v Haley will be fun to watch.

Not really, without Trump it is not worth the time.

If one of 'em would get close to Trump, he would debate but why should he, he is wining bigly.

Call me a troll cause I think DeSantis made a huge career mistake by challenging MAGA. If he had any sense he would get on board with Trump.

More ignorance. DeSantis is more MAGA than Trump. Proof in that Trump always attacks from the left.

Why would I support a Florida lawyer that has never held a job outside of government? Sound bit expert, very polished lawyer.

Only thing worst would be a banker.

Apparently, most republicans agree with me as Trump leads by double digits in FLORIDA.

Actually he did hold a few jobs outside of government and that includes if you don't think being a Naval Officer and a Teacher counts. He worked as an Electrician in college and he worked in a law firm as well.

As for why you should "trust him" he has a decade long record that is as consistent as you will ever see from a politician.

That said I know you are just trolling.

DeSantis is not going to win the nomination. HE can't even win his home state. HE has no experience in the private sector. He parrots Trumps policies.

HE impresses no one outside the Ukraine crowd.

If not for Trump, he would not be governor and because of Trump his career is over.

I think you guys are trolling me, do you not read the numbers??????

HE IS LOSING IN FLORIDA!!!!!

If Trump loses, I would blame DeSantis but his NUMBERS ARE SO LOW IT WONT BE HIS FAULT!!!!!

Polls are not votes as much as you want them to be.

Actually he was serving as a conservative Republican in Congress with the same policies while Trump was still a Democrat donating to Hillary and Obama.

The Ukraine thing is just lol, he wants to get out of Ukraine and sees it as Europe's problem. His concern is China.

I always love the "he owed everything to Trump" argument. So Trump was going to endorse his NeverTrump opponent as opposed to the guy who was his ally in Congress and defended him on the Russia mess? Uh, sure thing. The Trump endorsement also likely hurt him in the General.

The rest is just polls like always. DeSantis is the guy who actually executes on policies instead of just talking about it.

Looking through the latest polling in Iowa (Iowa St/Civiqs) and nationally (Harvard/Harris) and things are looking grim for DeSantis...

Though Trump held steady in Iowa, Haley gained groud on DeSantis...

Nationally, Trump was the only R candidate to post a lead over Biden in a head-to-head...Harris Poll actually showed Biden with a slight edge vs both DeSantis and Haley, but Trump had the edge over Biden...

We are now 30 days from the Iowa Caucuses, and Trump is showin a commanding 31 point lead over 2nd place... He has a 26 point lead over 2nd (Haley) in New Hampshire, and a 30 point lead over 2nd (Haley) in South Carolina...

I think DeSantis has pushed all of his chips in on Iowa, and it's appearing he will require divine intervention to have a shot there...his presidential hopes are firmly in trouble...though certainly not dead..

This is shaping up to be Trump v Haley for the R nomination unless DeSantis finds a way to remain viable through Super Tuesday...a lot will depend on Haley's ability to surge over DeSantis with early NH and SC 2nd place finishes...

Short of something extraordinary happening, I am confident Trump will be the nominee, and I think 2nd place, for the moment, is probably a coin flip, but Haley continues to gain strength...

That brings me to the general election...Trump now has momentum against Biden, and Haley also polls strongly agains Biden...so it may very well make sense to have a Trump/Haley ticket in November next year...

Two things required to change my opinions on what the numbers are showing?

1. Something extraordinary happening to Trump that prevents him from staying on the ticket...

2. D's swapping out Biden for someone else in the 11th hour...

Until/unless either of those happen, the Trump train may be hard to stop...

Maybe...maybe not...

Trump is pulling away from Biden in national polling and in most swing states, while other swing states show him continuing to close the gap on Biden...

Trump, for now, is not incapable of winning next November...as things stand today...

Plenty of things could reverse his momentum, and I have noted them already, but right now, he has the momentum and the lead for both the R nomination...and the White House...

That's what the numbers say...

Haley isn't making a serious run for President, she has no path. Hell she doesn't even have delegates in some states. She has tiny rallies and no buzz and one of the few things most DeSantis/Trump/Vivek voters agree on is they don't want her (though personally I would probably take her over Trump and that's not a compliment to eitehr). She is running for VP and she is actually colluding with Trump on that. I mean literally the day Trump pulled his negative ads against DeSantis in Iowa Haley funded a huge new buy using that sweet Wall Street cash.

I have little trust in the polls but I certainly admit Trump is likely to be the nominee and it seems increasingly likely Haley will be his VP. Trump needs her money and the big money guys won't give him cash but will give it to her if they believe she is likely to be that VP. Trump with Haley as VP is probably his best path to win (besides having DeSantis as VP of course but that is very unlikely). The problem is if she is his VP she might as well be President.

Or maybe the ground game works for DeSantis in Iowa or he so humiliates Haley in the debate he knocks her out. Both are a tall hill to climb though.

Lots of pieces moving around and it's very hard to know what is real and what is propaganda on all sides.

I think it's the most likely scenario. I also think that if that happens Trump will not be President for long if at all. The Uniparty would love someone like Haley who is easily bought and Trump fundamentally cares more about winning and revenge than any issues. Of course if he announced this now he would lose massive support so he has to take out DeSantis and Haley and her friends at Blackrock (who hate DeSantis more than just about anyone) are doing all they can to help.

Go to any Trump site though and say that Haley is going to be his VP and they lose their minds because they know she is the embodiment of everything they hate issue wise.
