Rural America is traditional America. Big cities are hives for the progressive left. They hate traditional America and want to change it.
Except there are not enough people left in "rural America" to decide the outcome of any presidential election.

The elections are won or lost in the small to midsized towns/cities, and in the suburbs.
Small town and mid size towns make up rural America especially the ones that are not connected to interstate highway.

Trump is curb stomping Desantis in these areas, well, really in all areas per the polls.

Bizarre! what is your point that the Rural 5% are backing Trump? I know a good number that back DeSantis but these are the smart ones that actually think about and understand how things work. After all these are the producers and the makers.

Lots of smart people in rural America. why insult them by tying some of them to the proud New York Yankee that was a democrat doner and Hillary backer only 15 short years ago. Thats not cool.

Trump, other than maybe Reagan, the most conservative US president in the last 100 years.

I'm not sure whether he truly believes that or not, but I think that's beside the point.

I think the true reason he keeps hammering this point ("We have all the votes we need!") is that he's setting up his excuse for when he loses in the General election should he be the Rep candidate.

Perennial losers learn to preemptively set up excuses to fall back on when they lose. Expert grifters also know this rule - set up the excuse beforehand so when the sake oil doesn't deliver as promised you can trot out the "See, I told you blah, blah, blah" excuse and continue to grift.
Or, bear with me for a moment, he's under indictment for really not believing he won in 2020 and he needs to stay consistent that he did win? He then goes on to talk about guarding the votes in the swing states, GA, AZ, PA, WI, MI, NV.
That's fine hawg and I realize that is what he meant. The problem is that isn't what he said. He needs to be talking about security but ALSO that we need to be out working to get every possible vote. You MUST have enthusiasm and people working hard to get votes out for you. The Dems pay people to do it. The RNC and Trump don't have the money for that so his only hope is to get volunteers. "We have all the votes we need" and "guard the polls" isn't going to get it done.

I understand he may be the nominee so this just makes me want to bang my head against a wall. It's lunacy.

Ok, but two honest questions, and you obviously have the experience when it comes to thinking about legal manuevering...

1) Is there a reason it can't serve both purposes?

2) Does his legal battle regarding 2020 require him to show confidence that he's already won an election still 11 months away?

I'll buy your point, but still....it's a detrimental message to the Republican Party who needs a high voter turnout in 2024, and it only serves Trump's interests by marginally helping him in his court battle. Again, Trump comes first, everyone else second.

Sooooo, congrats Trump, I guess? You get to help your personal legal case at the expense of convincing Rep voters the '24 election is already in the bag and they don't need any sort of GOTV push.
He's in Iowa. When is the last time Iowa went blue? Trump has several different audiences he is playing to with very different agendas.

But I do think he's doing a pretty crappy job at campaigning this go around, even if I understand the stress he must be under. I was always a wreck right after a single trial. He's fighting on multiple fronts in different states. Not surprising he's not on his A game.

Still wish he would drop out and endorse DeSantis at some point but again understand why he feels he can't even if he wanted to. And that's why I think his comments about the polls in relation to his strength and faith. His supporters. He feels he owes them to stay in as long as they still do support him.

Since I'm an old, I have been very familiar with Trump for many decades now. He hasn't changed. He is exactly the same as he was many years ago. But what has changed is where America's head has gone and the lurch leftward of the Dem Party since 2000. Years ago (before 2000), he might have been able to run and win as a Democrat. He's clearly been mulling a run for office for a very long time. Is his motivation a sense of noblesse oblige? Partially. Is it like Gordon Gekko said that America is a dysfunctional corporation that is being mismanaged? And he could do it better? (He showed he could do it better, in my view.) Again, maybe partially.

But he doesn't hate America nor the everyday American, of that I am sure. Bag on the guy all you want on the picayune stuff, he certainly can be honestly criticized, but this demonization is so over the top and frankly, just emblematic of the deranged Mikas, Liz Cheneys and Scarboroughs of the world running around with their hair on fire.

It is sad for our country to be where we are right now.

Really Ted Cruz was there? If Ted Cruz endorses DeSantis that would be huge. DeSantis hinted at a big announcement a couple weeks ago.

Really ballsy of Cruz going into his re-election campaign. It's easier to endorse Trump instead of a year of Trump and MAGA bashing you.

To be fair, Cruz and Santorum were there in a solidarity move around "The Full Grassley" though certainly DeSantis and Cruz are a matched set policy wise. I mean Chip Roy was Cruz's Chief of Staff. He's likely a bit gun shy after how hard he got hit last time for not endorsing Trump though openly in '16.

I agree Trump gets demonized unfairly but he sure as hell asks for it as well. I mean he gets as nasty and personal as any politician I can remember so I can't feel sorry for him there.

BTW, I actually had a Trump Board Game back in Middle School in the '80s and remember him back to the USFL Days and signing Herschel Walker before the Cowboys. He's definitely a one of a kind. He also did many good things.

I disagree with you that Trump is the same guy though. That guy had boundless energy and ideas and he worked his butt off. He just isn't that guy anymore. Is he as good as he can be for being nearly 80? Probably, but he's still nearly 80. It's going to get worse, time if undefeated.

What makes you say that? DeSantis is stronger in IOwa. Haley is stronger in New Hampshire. Tim Scott will likely go with DeSantis which makes South Carolina a tossup.

Haley voters would be smart to go for Trump in IOwa because DeSantis losing IOwa kills him. DeSantis winning Iowa and it comes down to who does better in South Carolina to go 1-1.

The Dept of Agriculture SHOULD BE closer to middle America, where the agriculture actually is. As opposed to DC, where many of the people involved may not truly understand the issues and DEFINITELY do not understand the people or the culture.

Quote:

When the Arab nations met for a summit in November, when some sought to enact punitive measures against Israel, those measures were stopped by Saudi Arabia and countries that had come together with Israel in the Abraham Accords, engineered by former president Donald Trump, as well as Egypt and Jordan.
Quote:

The demands were to prevent the transfer of U.S. military equipment to Israel from American bases in the Middle East region; suspend all diplomatic and economic contacts with Israel; cut back oil sales to the United States over Washington's support for Israel; stop Israeli air traffic over the skies of the Gulf and send a joint delegation to the United States, Europe and Russia to push for a ceasefire.

The resolution to adopt these measures was blocked by Israel's Abraham accords partner states the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco. They were joined by Egypt and Jordan, two countries with long-standing peace agreements with Israel. Saudi Arabia, Mauritania and Djibouti also opposed the measures.

So Trump gets a foreign policy brownie point?

I think the Abraham Accords that Trump helped to bring in are a HUGE deal. Seriously. I give him 110% credit for that - I don't think very may people could have gotten that to happen.

The Dems certainly couldn't have, because they do not WANT it to happen. And very few Republicans have the personality to engage those countries the way that Trump did.

That was not good Trump. That was GREAT Trump.

This is another reason that selecting Trump to be the candidate is troublesome. He would be dealing with all of these cases throughout the entire election period. So, he'd have half his mind elsewhere the whole time.

Then, what if he WERE to get elected - what happens to these cases? Do they just STOP for the 4 years he's in office?

If they DON'T, then he'll be dealing that all of the legal crap WHILE trying to do the hardest job on the planet.

If they DO, then he'll have the Sword of Damocles hanging over his head the entire term.

That's just a bad thing all around.

Good point, the common excuse for why Trump didn't accomplish something in his first term was because he was being investigated the whole time especially when he had Republican control. Now he'll be on trial. Then when 2026 comes, because he's a one term president, he can't do anything because all the focus will be on 2028 election. That gives Trump a very small window to do anything.
