Mr Trump's attacks on Mr Milley come after the military official was featured in an in-depth profile in The Atlantic, where the general described Mr Trump's "disturbing" alleged lack of respect for the armed forces.

He described how at a 2019 event, Mr Trump reportedly expressed disgust that Luis Avila, an Army veteran who served five combat tours and lost his leg in an IED attack, was chosen to sing "God Bless America."

"Why do you bring people like that here? No one wants to see that, the wounded," Mr Trump allegedly said.

The former president also reportedly praised Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, who was previously found guilty of posing the dead body of an Isis prisoner who he stabbed in the neck, as a "hero,"

claiming soldiers are "are all just killers. What's the difference?"

Hutchinson's claim that Trump admitted to Meadows that he lost is the latest in a series of eye-witness accounts of Trump periodically admitting in private to having lost the election.

Hutchinson testified to both federal investigators and the Fulton County grand jury, she writes, though she was not referenced in any of the indictments of Trump.

Hutchinson describes a White House that in its final weeks had turned to utter lawlessness, with Meadows regularly burning documents in the fireplace of the chief of staff's office.

After Meadows' office became smoky before a meeting, former GOP Rep. Devin Nunes asked Hutchinson, "How often is he burning papers?"

When Meadows' wife came to help pack his office in January 2021, she pleaded to Hutchinson, "Mark doesn't need to burn anything else. All of his suits smell like a bonfire."

This thread is apparently deteriorating into DeSantis echo chamber...

Regardless, an interesting trend has developed in the polling averages...

It appears that Ramaswamy's and Haley's momentum from debate #1 has been exhausted, and those numbers are swinging back toward Trump and DeSantis...

DeSantis has still lost ground to Trump, but with Ramaswamy and Haley fading, he is gaining favor with at least some of those folks...

Only takes 5-10% of those Republicans to say they won't vote for Trump, ever, and the election is over before it begins. Especially in states like AZ and GA.

Trump just needs to insult them harder.

This poll from August is still my favorite to show the amount of "religious fervor" for Trump:
https://www.axios.com/2023/08/21/trump-republican-2024-voters-poll

Quote:

By the numbers: Among those who are at least considering voting for Trump, 95% believe he "fights for people like me," while 99% believe things were better under Trump.
  • Among those who plan to vote for Trump, 71% feel that what he tells them is true higher than the results for friends and family (63%), conservative media figures (56%) or religious leaders (42%).
  • The percentage of those who consider Trump a source of truth drops to 53% among all likely GOP primary voters, in a sign that some remain skeptical of his claims.
  • However, that's still higher than the 44% who trust religious leaders and 32% who trust medical scientists and far higher than the 10% who trust President Biden.

I just wish they had asked the question: "If Trump had refuted the Bible, whom would you believe?"

Loomer 21:4 Desantis betrayed the people and was tossed out for his blasphemy. While he may have been true to the people, he was not true to the Lord.

Jenner 2:4 Thou shall refer to me as "she" and the Lord complied.

Trump will never win the Presidency,

and will continue to demolish down ballot Republican candidates.

It's not brain surgery to figure this out- seeing as how we have FIVE EXAMPLES OF IT since 2016.

Nah, what makes the most sense is that we see the electorate behave in a brand new way, and also Trump behave in a way he has NEVER done before by taking out the left in his own administration, and replace them with Constitutional conservatives. Only that is what we should expect to happen, not a repeat of what has already happened multiple times in similar situations.

It's interesting that Haley v Biden (Haley +4.3) is polling better that DeSantis v Biden (Biden +2.5) and Trump v Biden (Trump +1.5) in the RCP averages...

I'm wondering if she can regain some momentum in the debate this evening...

She appears to be the best performing R candidate versus Biden in the game right now...

Former President Donald Trump, his top executives, and heirs were declared completely liable of "persistent and repeated fraud"

and the real estate empire was unceremoniously stripped of its business licenses in New Yorkafter a judge's powerful ruling Tuesday ahead of a massive trial that seeks to hit them with more than $250 million in penalties for bank fraud.

And in a stunning development, the judge has already ordered the complete dissolution of the fabled Trump Organizationthe tycoon's pride and joy, the empire that made him famous and elevated him into the White House.

The Trump Organization and its sister companies will be sent into receivership to be under the control of a court-appointed officer.

I would be happy with Haley as the candidate if she could beat Trump

she can't.

she is polling at 5.3% and that is with no one paying attention to her.

her policy positions are far from the MAGA and Republican base when it comes to Ukraine and social issues.

Haley has a 0% chance of being the nominee and polls like that show just how flawed they are and how little people are paying attention. She's basically a female Lindsey Graham who is leading with Neocon policies.

Looking at the national polling between Republicans and Biden is also a joke because the base numbers are essentially in the low 40s for both sides and they are trying to make a big deal out of who has a few more points of undecided votes when there are a solid 10-15% that determines everything and isn't remotely engaged. DeSantis is "suffering" bit in some of the polls because you have a few Trump supporters that are saying they are undecided thus the numbers are 43-41 or 43-39 or some other nonsense.

It's all a distraction from the real race.

TRM and others in the know- how are things looking on the financial front. Seems that if RD can come in with the largest warchest, that puts him into good shape to the "Koch Cavalry" support

"Tim Scott, Chris Christie and Doug Burgum are still polling in low single digits nationally, while former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson failed to qualify for Wednesday's debate. Others are on the bubble for the third debate or will face a reckoning when the next fundraising reports are due.

A culling is coming in the Republican primary.

As the GOP field preps for its second debate, it's hurtling toward a make-or-break point for lower-polling contenders. They are running up against both a third-quarter fundraising deadline a major gauge of a candidate's durability and more stringent requirements to qualify for future debates.

Either one has killed campaigns in the past. And another big pressure point is on the horizon, too: The influential Koch network is expected to put its resources behind one of former President Donald Trump's rivals which candidate is unclear sometime after the fundraising reports are due in mid-October and before the holidays, according to a person familiar with their strategy.

Its 36-state network of organizers, vaunted data operation and potentially millions of dollars in support would be a boon to any candidate and represents a terminal threat to others."

I just found it interesting that Haley out performs the two R frontrunners against Biden... To me, that means she is more "electable" nationally, and certainly with independents...

Might be food for thought for the RNC...(it won't be, but perhaps it should be)...

But she is one of 2 R's who gained ground on Trump after debate 1 (Ramaswamy was the other)...

So there is at least some shred of evidence that she could pick up steam with a solid debate 2 performance...

The trend is what I will be watching...

the most upsetting thing about Trumpism is that in the last 3 years I had to acknowledge what many leftists have been saying for decades-

there are a ton of uneducated liars, grifters, and bad people in the GOP.

I always thought that "my team" was better in every way than the left-

No surprise. Her position on abortions is much more closely aligned with independents' views on abortion.

Haley appeals to moderate and independent swing voters much more than DeSantis or Trump do.

To accurately measure the metabolism of Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign we must invoke the images and manners of the bestiary's most indolent and sluggish creatures. The three-toed sloth, which favors slow motion. The echidna, which would lose a race against a continental plate. The nurse shark, which is so lazy it relies on ocean currents to aerate its gills. And then there is Australia's pygmy blue-tongue lizard, which "hunts" by lounging by its burrow hole in hopes that an insect or spider will stride by.

In recent weeks, Trump has come to resemble these kings of lethargy, slowing his campaign to the speed of the hour hand. As POLITICO's Meridith McGraw recently reported, Trump has largely discarded the hard, steady work of campaigning against his Republican opponents on the stump and limited his appearance to "spot" events, TV interviews, or tele-rallies. Instead of fighting for votes, Trump people have worked the nomination process to make sure that rules that reward delegates tip his way. Where he can't raise money, he tries to persuade potential donors not to give to his foes. On Monday, he took to Truth Social to urge the Republican National Committee to stop spending time on the "meaningless" debates because he's leading in the polls and to start suing Pennsylvania for switching to automatic voter registration.

Trump sat out the first Republican debate in August because, he said, the public already knew him and what he stood for. "Why would I allow people at 1 or 2 percent and 0 percent to be hitting me with questions all night?" he said in a Fox News interview in June. Now, he's also skipping the second GOP debate in favor of giving a competing speech in Detroit amid the UAW strike as if he's already the nominee. This is like a manager trying to get the umps to call a ball game in his favor in the fourth inning just because his team is leading 5-0 and, on top of that, saying his lead makes him deserving of the World Series trophy, too. It's a minor reprise of Trump's behavior on election night 2020 when he declared himself the winner before all the votes had been counted or any of the networks had projected a winner. "Our election was over at 10 o'clock in the evening," he said. Only a child would assume he's won because he's leading at halftime. Only a fraud would insist, as Trump did, that the election was rigged once the call went against him.

Haley is mainly taking from Christie and Scott in the Neocon/Traditional GOP Est lane. Those are folks that will not vote Trump but don't love DeSantis on policy but will pick him over Trump. Haley got some momentum mainly because she was kind of forgotten and did well.

DeSantis has two massive sledgehammers he can use on her though. First is she went all in on "Disney you should move to South Carolina!" and DeSantis has had as close to a total victory there as is possible. Second is she is all about Ukraine and DeSantis just needs to talk about how we are funding Ukraine with debt and ignoring our problems at home. If she gets testy he can lean on the "As the only candidate that has actually served and been in a war zone" line and he can remind people he served on Foreign Relations in the House.

Vivek does seem to have faded from his bounce immediately after the debate as a lot of people looked closer at him and the more they looked the less they liked.

As we get closer to December people will start paying attention but they still really aren't as of yet. The timing of the DeSantis/Newsom debate at the end of November is brilliant for him to let it just sit out there as a separator for him vs the others and then to have a high profile event as we are starting to get into the real primary season. There is also increasing doubt around Biden being the candidate on the other side and that is a big game changer to the race, we just don't know for sure how it will shake out.
