1) The gap has closed by 7 points in IA the past month, so the trend is in the right direction.
2) A third of Trump's support is open to changing their mind, so that small 2nd choice majority is in danger. Big difference between 52% to 34%. Remember before the indictments, Trump was polling in the low 30s.

Hmmm...from an average polling standpoint, I am not seeing that same gap closure...

But time will tell, obviously...

I do think DeSantis's Iowa ground came is going to help close the gap...but I think it needs to be no more than 6-8 points going into the caucuses on that day for him to have a chance at winning it...

It's going to be fascinating to watch either way...this is a rare dynamic we are witnessing...
It depends on what the support for "not Trump" actually acts like. I tend to think that anyone who is willing to support Trump is already included in the Trump vote, and the "not Trump" vote then moves on to the next person who... isn't Trump. I know that poll is an attempt to gauge that, but how it actually pans out will tell the real story of how electable Trump is.

Pre-Atlanta indictment the 1st choice support was 38-20% and Trump's consideration was at 55%.
Post-Atlanta indictment the 1st choice support was 43-18% and Trump's consideration was at 67%.

This is going to be interesting to watch come January during the caucus as with one of the cases starting Jan 2.

I would have loved to see the crosstabs on 2nd choice and consideration given 1st choice, but I guess that's their footprint metric to see how people actually move.

with two days until First Debate-

and seeing as how Trump is too afraid to show up:

what's then the DeSantis strategy to emerge in a stronger position following Wednesday night?

attack/defend? play it safe? go to war?

Sununu says he'll work to narrow 2024 GOP field in effort to defeat Trump
BY LAUREN SFORZA - 08/21/23 10:02 AM ET

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) vowed to help narrow the field of 2024 GOP presidential candidates in an effort to defeat former President Trump.

"As governor of the first-in-the-nation primary state, I will do everything I can to help narrow the field," Sununu wrote in a New York Times op-ed. "I plan to endorse and campaign for the best alternative to Mr. Trump. As of now, it's anyone's for the taking."

Shocking, said absolutely no one.

Anyone with a brain knew he was not a serious candidate. He is there to help Trump and grift off the fools who fall for his snake oil salesman shtick.

Yeah, this is no shock at all I'm just glad it appears some of the shine is finally wearing off this dude. Its about time some of the heat is aimed at him, although people with his arrogance always think they can outsmart their way past anything.

Hopefully, it's true. I'm guessing Fox is pissed at Trump doing an interview with Tucker dropping on Wednesday that takes away from the debate.

Ronna is feverishly calling Fox right now crying that she owes Trump bigtime and if doesn't come through for him by ensuring his surrogates are there she'll face the wrath of MAGA!

wow Im amazed at how stupid people can be. Basing their preference on raw mindless emotion. This will be Trump and the medias game plan to have Trump win the primary. Then the Media will turn on him exactly like they did in 2016 and 2020 for general. So predictable.

If Desantis can tear down this narrative he will win. its all they have.

Donald Trump Risks Turning Co-Conspirators Against Him
BY EWAN PALMER ON 8/22/23 AT 6:56 AM EDT

Donald Trump could be taking a major risk amid reports that the former president is not paying the legal fees of the other co-conspirators indicted in the Georgia election interference case.

Jenna Ellis, a former attorney for Trump who is among those indicted under Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' expansive criminal inquiry, questioned why Trump's MAGA Inc. political action committee (PAC) is not funding her defense in the case.

Ellis' concerns arrived after it was previously suggested that she may be one of the defendants to flip on the former president as Georgia prosecutors attempt to whittle down the number of people who will face trial in the sprawling RICO election interference case.

Former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani is another co-defendant in the case whose legal fees are reportedly not being covered by the former president's PAC.

Trump will be found guilty on felony charges

For the Trumpers this is just another badge of honor.

"See, no one supports Trump except for Granny in West Virginia!! He is beholden to no one!"

of course, why is Granny in West Virginia using her social security checks to support a BILLIONAIRE for his legal fees?

So Trump announced a $25M ad buy the other day, I don't know how they follow through on that. Between payroll and other campaign expenses, that seems like too big a buy at the moment. I'm guessing they made the announcement to make headlines but pare back on the amount in the future.

Dude how many threads are you going to post this on? It's not new information either. BTW, quality of polls continues to go down. That new CBS poll NATIONALLY had barely 500 people. It's a joke.

Either that or Grandma better get her SS check in because the big donors have decided they don't want to pay his legal expenses.
