Another bad sign from an NBC poll my dad shared with me.
Think of it this way, has any polling company reached out to you, your father, or any actual registered Republicans that you know of to get their opinions?
Or are these NBC/CBS/etc type polls reaching out to their usual demographic, asking them if they "identify" as a Republican, then asking them leading questions?
"They" have asked me. Although not sure of which polling group. I get them all the time.
Not sure on my family. I'm with you they could be over sampling or outright lying. But I doubt they can substantially lie and over sample at that almost 30% deficit.
The primary will tell all, but if Desantis can't beat trump, sure we are screwed but that also leaves a giant stink on Desantis. Just like it did on Cruz in 2016.
Edit: as I said above. I'm sort of shocked and disappointed there hasn't been a splash for Ron. Sure they could all be lying but I've yet to see any poll that shows him gaining or doing well compared to where he started.
I laid out earlier why there is no "splash" for DeSantis. He isn't trying to "splash" he is building up momentum and putting in his ground game while making strategic punches at Trump. He knows when the votes will count and it isn't now or even soon.
I also disagree this will hurt him like it did Cruz. Cruz wasn't hurt by running, he was hurt by how he ended his campaign. He didn't handle the attacks from Trump well. The Carly Fiorina VP thing was a WTF? Then he didn't endorse Trump at the Convention. He already was a guy that lacked personal appeal so that has made him very unlikely to ever be a Presidential contender again (who knows though, I would NEVER have guessed Biden could have recovered from his run in '88.
If you look historically the 2nd place guy has gotten the nomination later multiple times. Reagan was 2nd to Ford in '76. Dole had also run before and was Ford's VP candidate. McCain was 2nd to Bush in '00. Romney lost to McCain. A guy like DeSantis could certainly recover, especially if Trump gets the nomination and loses that would make him by far the frontrunner in '28 barring some really big mistakes.
Personally I think DeSantis is going to get the nomination though. I think Trump is going to have serious money problems soon and he is hiding it for now. I also think Trump will keep shooting himself in the foot while DeSantis just keeps plugging away and people will tire of the "We need to nominate Trump because he keeps getting indicted" logic. Even if people sympathize with him Trump has SO much baggage and would be severely hampered if he somehow was able to win. A poll today doesn't really show that but a poll 8 months from now....
