WOW just WOW. The Desantis's are the grifters meanwhile Trump sells digital trading cards portraying himself as a superhero and Don Jr. sells patriotic bibles. Gene Simmons trying to make a buck off anything Kiss has nothing on the Trumps.

And pathetic pic of Casey Desantis compared to Eddie Munster. That stuff is all about trying to get a fist pump and a laugh from the lowest common denominator. This ain't going to get you the independent or housewife vote.

People like maga typically don't want outsiders in their group, especially those they don't like. And since the beginning, maga has not been friendly to the CMs and independents who didn't give their total fealty to Trump.

I wouldn't be surprised if they really would prefer to lose with Trump than win with DeSantis. It's a very cultish way to think, but it's not like logic or reason will ever break through.

Think of it this way, has any polling company reached out to you, your father, or any actual registered Republicans that you know of to get their opinions?

Or are these NBC/CBS/etc type polls reaching out to their usual demographic, asking them if they "identify" as a Republican, then asking them leading questions?

"They" have asked me. Although not sure of which polling group. I get them all the time.

Not sure on my family. I'm with you they could be over sampling or outright lying. But I doubt they can substantially lie and over sample at that almost 30% deficit.

The primary will tell all, but if Desantis can't beat trump, sure we are screwed but that also leaves a giant stink on Desantis. Just like it did on Cruz in 2016.

Edit: as I said above. I'm sort of shocked and disappointed there hasn't been a splash for Ron. Sure they could all be lying but I've yet to see any poll that shows him gaining or doing well compared to where he started.

I laid out earlier why there is no "splash" for DeSantis. He isn't trying to "splash" he is building up momentum and putting in his ground game while making strategic punches at Trump. He knows when the votes will count and it isn't now or even soon.

I also disagree this will hurt him like it did Cruz. Cruz wasn't hurt by running, he was hurt by how he ended his campaign. He didn't handle the attacks from Trump well. The Carly Fiorina VP thing was a WTF? Then he didn't endorse Trump at the Convention. He already was a guy that lacked personal appeal so that has made him very unlikely to ever be a Presidential contender again (who knows though, I would NEVER have guessed Biden could have recovered from his run in '88.

If you look historically the 2nd place guy has gotten the nomination later multiple times. Reagan was 2nd to Ford in '76. Dole had also run before and was Ford's VP candidate. McCain was 2nd to Bush in '00. Romney lost to McCain. A guy like DeSantis could certainly recover, especially if Trump gets the nomination and loses that would make him by far the frontrunner in '28 barring some really big mistakes.

Personally I think DeSantis is going to get the nomination though. I think Trump is going to have serious money problems soon and he is hiding it for now. I also think Trump will keep shooting himself in the foot while DeSantis just keeps plugging away and people will tire of the "We need to nominate Trump because he keeps getting indicted" logic. Even if people sympathize with him Trump has SO much baggage and would be severely hampered if he somehow was able to win. A poll today doesn't really show that but a poll 8 months from now....

Even people I know who are Republican that don't follow politics too closely have told me they like DeSantis more than Trump.

The only person I know who is voting for Trump no matter what is a BSC lady who believed there were gunfights in some dominion server room in Europe where they wiped out all the "real" votes in 2020.

National polls are skewed towards name recognition early, Trump is a big name and leader by default. Mainstream coverage isn't really focused on the daily GOP primary happenings, but Trump and his indictments. DeSantis is focusing on IA, SC, and NV rather than trying to make a nationwide dent.

Here's the recent IA polling:
https://amgreatness.com/2023/06/08/poll-trump-maintains-double-digit-lead-over-desantis-in-iowa/
https://amgreatness.com/app/uploads/2023/06/POLLING-MEMO-IOWA-JUNE-8-2023.pdf

SC will be tough to crack with Haley and Scott still in it there.

NV has no presidential polling, but Laxalt is backing DeSantis and Gov Lombardo is not friendly with Trump.

And the first reply of course is from some MAGA loser (who in his profile says he is MAGA or nothing) quoting one of Trump's social media rants followed by others claims all the cops support Trump.

The PAC is down to $18 million cash on hand. That's why they've Trump donations have from 1% of donations going to the PAC to 10%. Low cash on hand, high salaries, and mounting legal fees.

Based on those write ups, it doesn't appear that DeSantis is making much headway in IA...which seems to mirror the national trend so far...

Perhaps, but then those who favor DeSantis should be working harder to build bridges with those who prefer Trump, rather than call them names and label them as cultists...

Whether folks want to admit it or not, a very large portion of the R-base is still very much pro-Trump, and the more the Left tries to bury him with fake charges and crimes, the stronger their resolve seems to become...

Yet no one on the DeSantis side seems to want to reach out to those on the Trump side to find common ground...all they care to do is attack anyone who says anything positive about Trump...

I'm sorry...but how exactly do you know that "most" Trump supporters believe him? Where is that statistic or are you just pulling stuff out of your ass?

I'll vote for whomever is the R at the top of the ballot in 2024, but I don't despise Trump, and I don't take his antics in political warfare all that seriously...

In fact, I would argue that there are a great many folks out there who are probably just like me...

But nope...if you have any positive feeling at all about Trump, some of you feel it necessary to shame such individuals...

Two wrongs make a right, I guess? Good luck with that...

From 2017 on, like K.T. McFarland always said, "Don't listen to what Trump says, watch what he does."

Policies, policies, policies.

So, I'm watching what DeSantis is doing and not paying as much attention to what he says. All politicans can talk a good game but will they do it?

We all live in our bubbles. We can only go off of what we see and the vocal trump supporters here just toss out TDS on repeat.

It is a shame there is so much division on the right. The divisiveness has obviously started from one side. Say what you want about two wrongs, but we never get here if trump wasn't bashing the most conservative candidate we've had in decades.

And like so many who have gone against Trump in the past, I ask...

Why take the bait?

I actually applaud DeSantis for taking the high road against Trump where others failed to do so...but man, DeSantis supporters should be trying to find common ground with the Trump vote...not constantly chastising and belittling them...

DeSantis WILL need their votes, ultimately...

If the Rs are going to win next year, there needs to be some peacemaking between the DeSantis and Trump camps at the local level...divided houses always fall...

But make no mistake...the Trump vote is not some isolated, little cult-like camp with a few hundred devoted acolytes...

It is quite literally 10s of millions at the very least...

The reality is that you have a small group of DeSantis supporters that really are tired of Trump and the crap his supporters have been saying and doing for a long time and they are hitting with both barrels. Trump folks of course have done the same but less so here anymore because there aren't that many Trump supporters left. I mean a few posts back you have Roger Stone with a picture of DeSantis' wife comparing her to Eddie Munster. For bonus points she apparently was going through cancer treatments at that time and that is why her appearance looked a little off and she had the over emphasized eyebrows. There is quite literally nothing too low for the hardcore Trump supporters in what they will say or do to DeSantis or his family and that is going to create a counter reaction.

The other reality is most people don't fit in either group. Most would gladly vote for either but support one or the other or are undecided. DeSantis folks tend to like what he is saying and doing in FL and see that Trump is old and unlikely to win for many reasons. Trump supporters still see the Trump of 2019 and before and haven't really compared the current version to him or they have a big sympathy vote for him because of what the DOJ is doing to him.

If you are going to get outraged about a Trump or a DeSantis supporter saying ugly things about the other side though you will have no trouble being outraged permanently. There are some folks on either side that really don't like the other camp but they are the minority in each. Focus on them if you want but trying to blame and chastise the rest because of those groups is a waste of time at best or just disingenuous.

Trump is not going to go down peacefully and playing nice with him while he has no boundaries is just admitting defeat. You have to hit him back or else you will lose by default. DeSantis is just an Alpha too.
