The main thing helping Trump right now is liberal networks talking about him nonstop but ignoring stuff like this and generally people aren't paying attention yet. Honestly though I think his biggest mistake THIS WEEK (there were quite a few) was the Kayleigh thing. I don't know of any Republican who doesn't like her and didn't think she stood up and took bullets for him every day. Absolutely terrible look for Trump on that and once again his circle of folks that are going to jump on that train is getting smaller not larger. It really hurts him with the conservative media as well who know her personally and she is one of the most universally liked people in conservative media, she just doesn't have enemies and Trump went out of his way to make himself one.

DeSantis is just going to keep plugging away and slowly his message will get out and his message is simply far better than Trump's. He's also very focused on building and not destroying.

DeSantis going after Trump on abortion. I know some will say this is a mistake but it is who he is. DeSantis is an ideologue and he always leans in on his positions. In the end he knows that those who oppose him will find a reason to do so anyway. The Heartbeat Bill (esp with exceptions for R&I) is not extreme as well. That is far less stringent than Texas or many other states. At most it is Center Right because in that first 6 weeks you can get an abortion for any reason and for the exceptions, which is where the Left concentrates 99% of their emphasis on that 1% of the cases, it goes to 15 weeks. At 15 weeks you are talking about a baby that is only about 7 weeks away from living outside the womb with current tech and that is decreasing.

Will be interesting to see how this does in Iowa where you have the very popular Governor featured prominently and that state has a strong social conservative bent in the GOP.

It shows that Trump's support is way more forced and contrived than it was in 2020, let alone 2016. in 2016, an enormous organic base of support sprang up for Trump. They created the memes (remember Hilldawg having to hold a conference on Pepe, Pepperidge Farm remembers) and went to battle for America-first policies in comments sections, volunteered, and excitedly voted for him.

People have moved on. Trump has to pay people to "like" him now- see influencers like Kasaam, DC Draino, etc. It shows in the poor efforts defending Trump vs DeSantis, because there really isn't a logical reason to choose Trump over him.
