" The once-prominent National Council of Churches in the USA (NCC) launched its 75th anniversary celebration on May 16, with a worship service at National City Christian Church in Washington, DC."

"Founded in 1950, the ecumenical council will not actually turn 75 for another two years. This was recognized during the service, as the Rev. Margaret Rose, Episcopal Church Deputy to the Presiding Bishop for Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations, clarified the event was about "launching into the deep waters of the future of the NCC to see where God is calling us in the next 75 years."

"Given the NCC's precipitous decline in influence and size, it is not apparent that the organization will last another 75 years. The NCC website lists seven staff members, and while the organization counts 37 member communions that once claimed a membership of more than 35 million people, this number has shrunk in recent years as liberal mainline denominations like the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) shed members at an alarming rate."

" The Ebenezer A.M.E. Church choir was prominently featured, performing gospel-style songs that made no mention of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection the core of the biblical Gospel."

"African Methodist Episcopal Church Retired Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie was announced at the service as the new President and General Secretary of the NCC after holding the position in interim since April 2022 following the departure of former NCC General Secretary and past United Methodist lobby chief Jim Winkler."

" Like Gideon, McKenzie said, Americans today must "get up, step up, and make it happen." That is, Americans must "push the refresh button on a justice agenda where we can join hands and heart and intellect and inclusion and voice and vision to push back the entrenched disparities, disrupt systemic racism, and bring about positive social change for all of us and not just some of us."

They wonder why their attendance and numbers are declining while independent evangelical churches are growing.

The National Council of Churches has always been a leftwing organization. It has just moved more and more left over time.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

On matters of faith and Christianity you can't take seriously anything with the word "episcopal."

This is the key phrase. So many of the current churches are failing to see that it's not about them, or about whatever SJ idea they want to push. First and foremost, it's about God, Christ & the Holy Spirit and seeking to understand their message.

The NCC is now about themselves, not God. For them, God and the church are means to an end, and simply tools to achieve their worldly goals.

Political organizations like the NCC and the ELCA need to start paying taxes.

Back taxes even.

A man is touring heaven for the first time. His guide offers... Over here are the Catholics. They are sharing a little wine. A little farther down the hall here are the Presbyterians. You can tell them by their love of V-neck sweaters. They are discussing their love of golf. He goes through each group and finally gets to a group at the end of the hall. The guide turns to the new resident and says "Quiet please. Those are the Religious Conservatives. For this to be their heaven, they have to believe they are the only ones here! Walk past and don't say anything".

Christians, on the right, love to judge who is not doing thing right.

The best description of the Methodist mess that I've seen is that the conservative members of the church cared very much about theology and little about politics. The left cared very much about politics and very little about theology. Which is fine and all but theology and worship is the difference between church and a social club.

Now do Religious Conservatives. Explain the balance for me. Seem way more interested in politics and judging than anything remotely theological.

I've always found it interesting that Libs think systemic racism is a Democrat talking point. When it comes to racism the Dims are the most dishonest party on the planet. They've used billions of dollars to keep racial groups down, not elevate them. George Orwell would be proud of the Democrats of today.

And yet you come on here to mock those Christians who actually believe what Jesus said.

Funny how most of the churches following social justice objectives are actually the ones doing the judging. You either agree with their stance, or you're shunned and called homophobic, transphobic, racist, etc. Their stance is the now the most important thing, not God. Certainly not His message.

Not surprised you fail to see this.

Left or right have nothing to do with Christianity. There won't be "different groups who thought they were doing things right" in Heaven. There will only be people who knew Jesus and people who did not.

Those who did not will hear "Depart from me. I never knew you."

Your picking and choosing as we all do. Here is an idea:

1. Believe the Word of God IS infallible.
2. Accept that human nature, rooted in sin, is selfish and that selfishness includes forming little groups that exclude others because it makes us feel "right" and "valid".
3. Take up the challenge to Love God and Love People, which means those that disagree with you are not your enemy.
4. Encourage the yahoos on here who attack Brittany Griner after she said she learned a lesson about standing during the anthem as unforgivable or who divide us along madeup social issues like CRT to crack the Bible back open and read all of it, from washing the feet of the poor to turning the other cheek.

When you can do that, I will start considering posts that sound like they were written by the Pharasees

1. Agree.
2. Strawman...you threw out the "right wing Christians" label. True Christians don't group people. Staying true to God and his commandments, staying true to the Word, is NOT forming little groups that excludes others. All are welcome. If you reject the Word, any iota of the Word, then you are the one forming groups and excluding others because it makes you feel "right" and "valid" to be so accepting of the current age.
3. Agree, but the left want to tell me that I must accept the sin of those who disagree with me as a good thing and not consider it a sin. I sin. I sin hourly. I don't accept my sin as good. I repent of my sin and acknowledge it for the evil that it is. Jesus says to love my enemies, but he doesn't say to love and accept sin.
4. See #3 above. Forgiving people and turning the other cheek does not equate to accepting sin as good and treating it as though it weren't sin. That is what the modern Christian Left is DEMANDING that we do. They demand that we reject God for the world. They put the zeitgeist before God. I cannot do that, and as such, I'm labeled by you and others as some right wing Christian who hates his fellow humans.

You are just as Pharisaical...you demand we follow the current law of man rather than the law of God.

liberals have divorced themselves from the four last things. On these, they're silent because they can't reconcile their world view with that area of Christianity.

And lets not get crazy...plenty on the right do just as much judging. And I'm speaking from the right. Was there a joke in there? I missed it.

The original joke, the one performed by the Rev. Grady Nutt on the hit show "Hee Haw", was actually funny. It went something like this (he may have used other denominations...that was like 45 years ago):

A man dies and St. Peter is giving him the tour of heaven. They are walking along a hall when they come to a room full of people drinking wine and having a BBQ.

"Who are these people?", the man asks St. Peter. St. Peter replies that they are the Roman Catholics.

They come to the next room, and there people are enjoying a gigantic potluck meal with beer and polka music. "And who are these folks?", he asks. St. Peter replies that this is the room for the Lutherans.

After seeing many rooms with many different denominations, St. Peter tells the man, "We must be very quiet as we approach this last room."

The man asks "Why?"

St. Peter replies, "This last room is the Church of Christ folks. They think they are the only ones here!"

Religious Conservatives, as you call them, do care about politics. But their opinions tend to be a consequence of their theology. Religious Liberals, to expand on your labels, also care about politics. But they tend to accept or reject elements of theology based on it's compatibility with their politics. Now everyone tends to operate on a spectrum. But these are the general patterns I've seen. I've seen Religious Conservatives change their mind. But almost always with some pretty in depth discussion and disagreement from the apologetics side.

The question I always ask is, if you want the government to tax people and then use that to finance all the social justice issues you think are important for moral reasons, why do I need a church?

Grace means giving of yourself regardless of what others around you are doing. When you bring the government power into forcing people to do those things Grace goes out the window .

Outright reject Baptism, or just get their theology/doctrine a little wrong on Baptism? Because there is a difference.

Why would a Christian reject Baptism when Jesus specifically instructs us to be baptized?

Christians on the right have not rejected the Bible and have not rejected the notion that Scripture is inerrant. Christians on the left have very much done so.

The Bible is the Word of God. The Word of God is Jesus (see John 1). To reject the Word is to reject Jesus. And Jesus is the only way to salvation.

Christians on the right aren't the ones judging others. They believe what Jesus said and proclaim it as so. Thus, if Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light, and no one comes to the Father except through Jesus, and Jesus is the Word...well, do the math.

And yet you come on here to mock those Christians who actually believe what Jesus said.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I have noticed there is one group that is asking to remove tax exempt status from churches….and their politics aligns with these intolerant "tolerant" churches.

This joke was originally about, and fits better, the Church of Christ.

You don't have to be religious to acknowledge Griner should show more appreciation for the US.

Religious conservatives don't have any power these days although many on the left still think they're fighting Christianity like it's rhe 1970s and they're still underdogs. So weird and made up.

Left or right have nothing to do with Christianity. There won't be "different groups who thought they were doing things right" in Heaven. There will only be people who knew Jesus and people who did not.

Those who did not will hear "Depart from me. I never knew you."
I am still working on understanding the original statement. I know, sometimes ChatGPT mangles sentences.
