There was some pushing and shoving on the floor. Still mystified as to how anyone got injured enough to be treated by paramedics or end up in hospital unless they thought of course they could sue the police somehow.

Politics in the United States has gotten crazy.

You can blame this on NAFTA. The North America Free Trade Agreement opened up the borders for a quick buck, but took down the working class/middle class voter in the Midwest.
NAFTA allowed a job with a decent wage to be outsourced to Mexico.

Its classic American legislation. We tend to focus on the quick profit, while ignoring the long term problems that these "solutions" bring.

Ironically, the problem here is exactly the opposite of what you are suggesting.

In any election in the People's Republic of Minneapolis/St. Paul, a Democrat is going to win (unless it amuses a progressive to call themselves a Green or a Socialist). That is what the populace wants, and that is what they will get.

The thoroughly anti-democractic institution of a 'nominating convention' is what gave rise to this conflict. The imprimatur of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party is valuable, and it is ever more valuable the lower down the level of the perceived importance of the office you go.

When you get to elections (e.g., local school board) for which less than 10% of the population votes, getting a couple of hundred people to declare you the preferred choice at the convention is essentially guaranteed to make enough lemmings pull the lever for you to win the seat.

Any serious contest for a congressional or statewide seat is resolved with a primary: it is only the contests where no candidate has a pot to piss in that are decided by the local conventions. That is where you send your representatives to whack the other side on the head with a cardboard sign.

Congratulations liberals!!! This is YOUR party. A party of violence proven everyday in the cities you control.

I get that, too, but what you have to recognize is that this extremely provincial crap is not why the politics of Minnesota are what they are. The Somali population might be enough to control two state House seats and a couple of seats on the Minneapolis city council, at most.

The reason that Ilhan Omar is in Congress, however, is that a lot of white liberals want to be represented by the likes of Ilhan Omar. The votes of her demographic group (many of whom can't stand her, BTW) would not be nearly enough to put her in office.
