My largest concern is students ambushing a teacher and taking the weapon.
This looks like a case where biometric verification would be a good thing, but I don't know how reliable it is.
While I get the response it really is extremely unlikely to ever happen. Certainly you should have regs around how a weapon is concealed and secured. Moreso though, why would a group of kids do that? Death wish? I mean it's not some crazy feat for a kid to sneak a gun into a school as it is so why would you get a group together devising a plan to steal a secured weapon from a teacher that has been trained to use the weapon? You would need a lot of kids in on the plan to because as soon as they did other kids would jump in most likely.
If they do get the weapon they can shoot a few but then what? Wait for another teacher to shoot them? The kid is going down so if they are crazy enough to do this they are going to die anyway and are psycho, how they get the gun is less of an issue because if they are willing to die they can get a gun.
Now if the argument is teachers should just walk around with a weapon exposed or sitting in their desk without any security then of course that's a problem but I don't think anyone is suggesting that.
Anyone that is going to shoot up a school is doing it in part because they want to feel powerful over people that can't defend themselves, they are by definition cowards. The main reason you want teachers that are willing to be trained and responsible to be armed is it takes that away. The kid doesn't know who is armed and who isn't. They know they are going to be taking on a hostile situation. That isn't as appealing to them.
