Not sure if this falls under politics, but it does fall under false accusations.

For those here who don't remember, Matt Araiza was an All-America punter at San Diego State. Nicknamed "The Punt God," the dude routinely hit 70-80 yard punts. He was drafted in the 6th Rd of the 2022 draft by the Buffalo Bills.

Not long after the draft, a 17-year-old accused him of taking part in a gang rape at SDSU. He denied the allegations.

His life was quickly destroyed. He was cut by the Bills and was looking at serious prison time; however, it's now come out that prosecutors and police know that Araiza was NOT present at the rape. He didn't appear in any of the videos and left the party hours before. His legal team claims that the woman added his name to the list of rapists as a money grab.

Now, with his reputation in shambles but completely innocent, we will see how the sports media and NFL respond to the latest news that he had no role in the incident.

The accuser needs some time in prison for making a false criminal accusation and should have to repay him the contract money he lost.

I agree 100%. I'm tired of reading stories like this about people ruining someones life with false accusations.

I agree with you. But there is a segment of society who believes that there should never be any kind of retribution against an alleged rape victim, because that would prevent other rape victims from coming forward to report their attacks.

I think that if you make a false allegations of rape you should face felony charges.

There needs to be SERIOUS punitive punishment on women who ruin the lives of men in this way and also including false allegations of sexual harassment in workplace and everywhere else. 50yrs in prison is too lenient for ****s like that.

What if we assumed people were innocent until proven guilty? Would that work?

How about women that destroy their marriage and then get half the assets?

It's seriously messed up and it's making it more difficult to believe women that were actually harmed.

If the punters name was Tyrone or Muhammad this would be national news. He would have the Bill's on their knees offering him record contract and a go-fund me flush with millions.

To law enforcement's credit, rather than Duke Lacrosse this, it sounds like they were extremely diligent.

Well, the apparent fetish for being choked during sex, infidelity being mainstreamed, and the feminist need for multiple partners, seems to have killed off #metoo rather quickly. For us long married couples we're kind of doing the wanker hand sign these days when we hear women cry about it.

Would he have any action he could take against the Bills for cutting him due to unsubstantiated allegations?

Doubt it. The Bills are a private business. They can easily argue that even the controversy was negative for business. They can just as easily go out and rehire him.

I wonder what team is going to swoop him up..... fella is going to have a skill with a renewed sense of existence. I'd want him as my punter.

Don't think there was much sleeping involved. Sounds like they had a quickie outside before she went back inside to brag to her friends about it.

If Ray Lewis had a job after his murder trial, then this guy will have a job soon.

And I agree - this girl should have to face consequences for her false accusation. Nothing ticks me off more (as a woman) to see this crap happening. I have sons and we had serious talks about the hot/crazy matrix.

I am not understanding how the Bills and the accuser won't be on the hook here.

Bills can do whatever they want, but seems logical that they are not allowed to fire someone on a false rumor.

With that logic, wouldn't you have to prove that the Bills KNEW the allegations were false and fired him anyway?

You absolutely should. False allegations do more to harm actual rape victims than you can imagine.

But the Bills admitted they knew about the accusations prior to the draft. So obviously they thought it was a nothing burger at some point

Devil's advocate: how often do we hear about teams "doing the research" beforehand, only to find out they did practically nothing?

That's fine. I'm just pointing out that they Bills did know about the allegation prior to drafting him. They didn't draft him and then this came out of no where. I'm just adding that because you said to prove the Bills "KNEW." Well they knew something

Change my mind. I dont like this at all.

The problem is with media assuming guilty without evidence. Punishing women and potential victims (if the other guy just has better lawyers) is not a right response. Attacking news organizations that false report and put pressure is another thing.

It's also important that the lawsuit wasn't filed until AFTER they drafted him. That also alters perspectives. Either way, there's a zero percent chance the bills are on the hook for anything here.

Is that a defense to criminal prosecution though? I don't believe it is in Texas, but hopefully a criminal law attorney can post.
