As if it weren't obvious enough.
We have another "tough on crime" podunk backwoods POS fake conservative Louisiana police/prosecutor tomfoolery case, this time involving Plaquemine Parish. A subcontracter for a construction project was sitting at home watching the Superbowl when one of his workers' trucks got stuck in the gate of a gated neighborhood and caused minor damage. He contacted the main contractor who said they would work it out with the HOA in the morning. He emailed the HOA the next morning.
A Sheriff's deputy contacted him, accused him of a hit and run (he wasn't even there) then told him to keep contact via text on the deputy's personal cell phone. The subcontractor contacted a lawyer who told him not to text the deputy's personal cell phone. The deputy arrested him and filled out a sworn affidavit saying he was on clear video hitting the gate and driving away. The video is actually of the worker who looks nothing like the subcontractor. Security camera footage from the contractor's home shows him at home at the time of the incident. Sheriff's office and prosecutors know he could not have done what they alleged. But he spent 72 hours in a holding cell anyway (without a change of clothes or a toothbrush) and the case took over a year to be dropped.
When the case was finally dropped, the Sheriff's department spokesperson blamed him for the incident saying it was because he didn't cooperate with the investigation and hinted he could still be charged again later. They sent a message to the community that if you exercise your rights to not talk to the police they will arrest you on made-up charges.
