1. Mandates E-Verify for public and private employers: Employers who fail to use E-Verify will be fined $1,000 per day until they comply with the law. Penalties for employing illegal aliens include license suspension and even revocation for repeat offenders.

2. Enhances criminal penalties for human smuggling: Those caught transporting illegal aliens will face 5 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Those caught transporting 5 or more illegal aliensor a single unaccompanied minorwill face up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

3. Disqualifies out-of-state licenses issued to illegal aliens (Florida does not issue driver licenses to illegal aliens)

4. Prohibits county governments and NGOs in Florida from using taxpayer dollars to supply "community IDs" for illegal aliens

5. Makes it a felony for an illegal alien to use a fake ID to obtain employment in Florida

6. Charges hospitals to collect and submit data to understand how much the Biden Border Crisis is costing Floridians

7. Secures an additional $12 million for Florida to transport illegal aliens into "sanctuary" jurisdictions

I don't believe so. I don't know the specifics of how the 14th is applied to illegals but what is most likely is this would trigger a court case that could actually end up reversing how those issues are handled. Certainly when the 14th was passed it was not meant to protect illegals.

As a FL citizen that makes me give an even bigger middle finger to Disney, and I'd be extremely disappointed in Desantis if he gave in to Iger's threat. And if you think Desantis will suddenly cave to that threat then you don't know him. Plus, all the legal stuff I've seen coming out from the people who actually understand the issue points to Disney being extremely behind the 8 ball on this issue.

That's likely why Iger makes empty threats like this. He's desperate to resolve the issue before Disney gets their ass handed to them in a court. Go watch the videos Hawg posted on that thread. And yes, these are empty threats. Disney needs to continually invest in their parks to keep guests returning. If they do cut back its not because of this issue, it'll be because of overall economic reasons.

The two sides not working together for an agreeable solution is a net negative economic impact for Florida.

Right now DeSantis has leverage and can get his best deal. I think he should figure it out, not drag it out.

Disney is trying to saber rattle because they screwed themselves. We have a better chance of seeing Greta Thunberg going to work for Exxon than Florida rebuilding WDW in another state. How the hell would you even sell that land without spending billions in demo work first?

I'm trying to understand your argument here FKA. Are you implying DeSantis hasn't asked Disney to come to the table?

I haven't seen anything from Disney that amounts to any sort of willingness to work with DeSantis on the issues they are having. I have seen clips from DeSantis essentially saying, "hey, I would love for us to come to the table to talk, I'm just not going to allow special privileges to a corporation that is using its influence to lie about my policies."

It seems to me that Disney keeps forcing the nuclear option, then crying when it doesn't go their way. Maybe they do withhold 17 billion of new investment. But I don't see how that benefits them. The best case for Disney is that it hurts DeSantis enough in the press that he can't run for President, forcing him to be stuck in FL politics for the foreseeable future. That just doesn't seem like a good end goal for Disney.
