Saw that they have a gofundme for "medical expenses". So they can afford to send her off to expensive gyms around he country, a jordan collection, etc but not health insurance?
I'm not sure if you know this, but insurance doesn't pay all of the medical bills. She's going to have tens of thousands if not more for multi day ICU care.

I am all for helping those who need it, but I have a hard time donating to a family who is paying to send their daughter to competitive cheerleading and having her travel over two hours each way multiple times a week. I know what competitive cheer costs, and I will always prioritize my family health-care over those costs.

Pretty easy to do in the dark if you own a common-model car. As a kid, my mother and I actually unlocked and got into a Volvo that was the same color and model. It was only when the car didn't start that we realized we were in the wrong vehicle.
One Friday evening in Aggieland in the 1970s, one zip went out into the parking lot and his car, a black mustang, if I remember correctly, was gone. Naturally, he reported it as missing.

On Sunday night, the car was recovered. Another ct was driving it back after a weekend in his hometown. It turned out that he had borrowed a friend's car, same color and model as the other, for the weekend to go home. On Friday afternoon, he went out to the parking lot, got in the car and left. It turned out that he was driving the wrong car all weekend.

One thing fuel efficiency standards have accomplished is making many cars look the same, especially small and midsize sedans. The optimal aerodynamics lead to very similar body designs. And teenage girls are about the least likely to pay attention to details

I got in the wrong vehicle at the post office once. When it didn't start, I started looking and realized that the one I got into was spotless on the inside. I was in the next car over.

Last summer at the Big R store in Dumas, I walked out and saw that someone had smashed into the driver side of my car. The entire rear of the driver's side was smashed up and the door wouldn't open. I was standing there wondering how it happened -- from the way it was parked, they would have nearly had to run into it intentionally. After five minutes or so, I realized that I was parked in the next row over.

No 25 year old chilling in his car in the HEB parking lot is looking to shoot and maim some HS kids out of malice. They started this sequnce by not paying attention which vehicle was theirs.

Texas doesn't require retreat, but it certainly has limits on pursuit. The second she got back in her friend's car and he got out of his he was pursuing, not standing his ground or defending himself.

I'm mainly taking issue with you saying "I am all for helping those who need it"

You are not. You'll find any reason to demonize them and say they are undeserving of help. Whether it's opening a wrong car door, ringing the wrong doorbell, or having the nerve to compete in cheerleading competitions. I'm calling BS on your fake sympathy. And I do this because I think your position is very representative of conservatives in general.

I find your position cruel. You are being so hard on a high school girl who got shot and is fighting for her life because she is a competitive cheerleader. Same thing with the kid who got shot through the door. Just incredibly harsh, unforgiving stances you are taking. Like are you thinking about the words you are saying? Good Lord.

It is worth mentioning that you have to be careful with people raising money for victims.

A friend of mine's house burned down in Bryan. Sometime later, he found out that one of his neighbors that he was friendly with was collecting donations to help him out with expenses. The neighbor appears to have kept all the donated cash and only gave him the checks that he had received.

It used to be pretty common for the number of available keys for each model to be limited so there was a pretty good chance of having an identical key.

A friend of mine once had a pickup with a key that matched the same model of pickup from someone he worked with. So he would play tricks on the guy such as unlocking the pickup, tossing some beer cans in the passenger side floorboards, and locking it again. One night he saw it at a movie theater in a nearby town after a rain. He moved it over into the middle of the biggest water puddle in the parking lot that he could find.

Even the cheapest Obamacare plans have a catastrophic out of pocket cap. So save us the tens of thousands bit.

If they are in financial peril because of this they were irresponsible and have misplaced priorities. Which they already probably do because their kid was practicing cheerleading on 3 school nights a week 2.5 hours away.

Speaking from experience - you would be amazed at you can get wiped out by medical costs even with good insurance. My family's insurance is from my wife as a Texas school teacher and we get the top plan. I've ended up with paying tens of thousands in medical bills multiple years for far less than ICU. Granted - we've had doosies of medical issues, but you're buying into your insurance marketing if you think they'll walk out of it with a few grand in costs.

And by the way - great Christian values ya got there as far as your attitude. Not only saying a simple mistake was an idiot move but saying the family is irresponsible with misplaced priorities??? You don't know anything about them but judging like the king of the mountain?

Never quite bought into Aggie values, huh. Just because more people now ask for money bc of the internet, doesn't mean some people don't need help.

You obviously don't have kids. You can pay your deductible and have great insurance. If your kid gets cancer. or suffers from something that requires many surgeries and/or therapy...I promise that you will have financial issues.

Son had oral surgery - no days in hospital. $7k bill. Same son had heart surgery $12k bill. We spend 10-12k a year for my daughters skin condition until recently when we started dupixant and my wife spent 3 days on the phone with makers of and they agreed not to charge $3k a month after insurance. Daughter had allergic reaction one night that we ended up in the emergency room for and that itself cost $1k and really only got Benadryl out of it.

You may have lucked out - I could do $1k all the time. Or you may have issues and the anesthesiologist is out of network even though your doctor is. Hell, you could have been shot in a parking lot and not been able to make sure the hospital is in network. You could end up needing a ton of care that your insurance doesn't cover.

Medical bills are the number one reason people go bankrupt in this country. The bills can be gigantic and not something that people have cash laying around for - even with insurance. I get it - if my only experience with medical bills was for $1k, I would be wondering why they would be asking for money also. I get you are proud of the way you handled money and think spending money on your car is better than spending money on your kids.

I get you aren't Christian - not really one either. Just thought you would have some moral compass in there.
