Its being discussed just like the other recent one. What amazes me is the support that its justified. Any reasonable person sees a cheerleader get into their car by accident, watches them go "oh crap sorry wrong car", then get out and go to their car, doesn't think "my life is in danger, I need to chase them down and shoot". Had they shot her the minute she entered their car...then I maybe see it as justified...extremely said...but likely defensible.

Then maybe it's just bad or incomplete reporting leading to my confusion.

I would think some relevant facts to include might to have been what car she drives and what car was approached. And I know this story is in its early stages, but I also don't understand who is just randomly sitting in a car with a loaded gun in a parking lot at midnight.

I'm definitely not blaming the victims, because the shooter's actions were suspiscious and wrong, but so much about this story just doesn't make sense to me.

Agree.

Cheerleaders do drugs too.

Texas doesn't require retreat. The person gets back into a car and then rolls the window down. How is the driver of the other car to know you didn't go back to the car to get a weapon because you realized the car was occupied? Then you roll the window down. Yeah...bad sequence of events.

No 25 year old chilling in his car in the HEB parking lot is looking to shoot and maim some HS kids out of malice. They started this sequnce by not paying attention which vehicle was theirs.

Idiotic.

They were teenage girls. Who the F opens fire on teenage girls in cheerleading outfits?

Someone who is always situationally aware.

They were cheerleaders....come on now. The owner of the gun should have been more situationally aware.

I would bet $$$ drugs or a drug deal was involved somehow. It sounds like he was also involved in a second shooting that night - probably was hoping to get a jump on whoever he was meeting.

"Officers also responded to another shooting victim half a mile away on State Highway 95. Police say the two shootings are related."

Leaving work one day, I got to my truck and there was a guy standing at the driver's door wondering why his fob or his key wouldn't work. I stood behind him for at least a minute and hit unlock. He kind of looks surprised, like his key fob finally worked. He opened the door to get in and then realized it was the wrong vehicle.

A few years back our company had a conference, we all flew in from out of town, so many of us we couldn't all stay in the same hotel. After the meetings a few co workers wanted to go out for drinks, said they'd pick me up. Described their rental car. Few minutes later a vehicle just like they described pulled up beneath the hotel awning. I jumped in. A huge dude was sitting in the driver's seat snorting lines. I quickly apologized, said it appears I am in the wrong car. He locked the door, no my man, you are in the RIGHT car. I manually unlocked the door, jumped out. My actual ride had just pulled up, I jumped into their vehicle and said let's jet out of here

There may be more to this story, but one thing is absolutely certain - this was in no way a justified act of self defense.

Be interesting to see a bio on the shooter .......there's more to him than has come out.
My theory hearing these circumstances and the end action, he was waiting on a drug deal, maybe had drugs in the car and thought she might have seen what he was doing. Being paranoid, he took action.

Edit to say someone above beat me to it.

Given all these stories from this week, I am convinced there are some people out there who are paranoid as hell and fantasize about shooting people.
Every day on Next Door there are breathless reports -- often with Ring video -- of someone "knocking on my door" or "walking by my house" with the poster and others all freaking out. There are literally people out there who believe it's a crime if someone comes up to their front door.

The comedian Sebastian Maniscalco does a funny bit about this scenario. But it's really not funny how many people are so quick to panic.

ETX is honestly starting to scare me a bit as someone who may be trigger happy. He has tried to justify every shooting recently, and has erroneously tried to apply the law to support himself over and over in very unreasonable ways.

Based off details available at this point this is a bad bad shoot.

This may be off track, but about 30 years ago, I know someone whose elderly parents lived in Detroit. They went to the grocery store and came home IN THE WRONG CAR. The car was a GM sedan and looked identical to theirs and ironically their key started the wrong car.

They were clueless until the cops showed up at their house and accused the 80 something cotton tops of car theft!!

This happened to me about 5 years ago. Valet brought me the wrong, but identical car after dinner. Drove it home and didn't figure it out till hours later when the driver of my actual car tracked me down by phone.

Complete BS. And we know what you're implying by "reasons."
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

In the 80s, I unlocked the door to a tan Crown Vic with my parents keys. It was identical to my parents car, door key worked, ignition did not. The right car was on the other side of a truck.

I remember going to the mall with my older sister in the mid 90s.

We went in my mom's Astro Van. Came out of the mall and got in the Astro Van and there was a coke bottle that wasn't there before.

Jumped out and realized it wasn't the right Astro Van (same year, color, etc). We had parked two spots further down.

The fact someone thinks that we could have been followed by the owner to our correct car and shot is dumbfounding.

I did this twice. Once when I drove a '67 VW Beetle. Once outside a book store there was one the same year and color as mine. I unlocked the door to the other one with my key, sat down, and couldn't figure out why there was a flower vase in my car.

The other time was in the late 90s with a rental car. I had just checked into a hotel and walked outside and clicked the fob. The car right in front of the door flashed its lights and I hopped in to go get something to eat and couldn't figure out why there was a road map I' had never seen before on the front seat.

Neither car was occupied obviously, but definitely to think about what could have been.

On the flip side, why is a 25 year old chilling in his car in the HEB parking lot at 12:15 in the AM? I know there ain't much to do in Elgin, but something smells funny here.
No kidding, that HEB closes at 11:00 and the only cars in that lot are probably the girls cars.

First, whatever.

Second, where did I defend this shooting? I said people need to be accountable for their actions and parents need to teach their children to be situationally aware.
And that the shooter was an idiot.

40 years ago my mom left me in the car while she ran into the post office which was literally a travel trailer in our tiny town.

A gentleman got in our car and did the hands where you are going to start the car and about sheet himself when he saw a little girl in the mirror, and went nuts apologizing when my mom came out! It was an emerald green 78 Chevy nova so ??? How common.

I nearly did this with my parents' silver Toyota Highlander at night in a parking lot since there are a zillion of them, but I figured it out when the fob did not work.
