The state of Illinois as a whole didn't lose any population between 2010 and 2020 for whatever reason. Either no one is leaving, people are moving in, or there is a higher birth to death rate (or a combination). Your guess is as good as mine as to why.

While true Illinois population did not plummet in the last ten years, the US population grew by 7.4%. There were only three states with negative population growth: IL -.1%, MS -.2% and WV -3.2%. So sure, the population remained relatively the same but compared to other states it had far less growth than the 47 other states. The next lowest population growth was Connecticut at +0.9%. So definitely telling.

Yep, we made two great trips up there in 2015 and 2017 for the bleachers and first base line. Great fun, food, sites. Glad we got it done before it gets as bad as Escape From New York. No reason to ever go back, even to the rare safe spots.

I doubt a republican will ever win again either. They've been under democratic rule for what 60 years? And it gets worse every year.

I have a good friend who was born in raised in Chicago, multi-generational. A few years ago he simply couldn't take it any more, what had become of his beloved city and couldn't stand to have his family there any longer.

So he liquidated everything and bought a farm/ranch in rural Illinois and has turned it in to quite a thriving small business that he and his wife run. This is the way.
