You are suggesting that this little girl needs to "toughen up" and anybody that disagrees with you on that is not only wrong, they must be mentally impaired?

No... I was suggesting that your "cowboy up" and "slaughter it in front of the girl" comments are childish.
Just using sarcasm to try and get my point across.

And you didn't say "childish", you said "unstable". Either way, I'm not sure how starting an argument telling someone they are either of those things demonstrates how your are arguing like a respectful adult. A tad hypocritical.

Likewise, if they want to buy a pet goat, there are many options to do that. In fact, they could have made this a pet goat. The parents entered her in a LIVESTOCK show, with a LIVESTOCK sale. They had ample opportunities, before and after the girl showed her goat, to make it a pet.
The mom didn't do that. Instead she chooses to make the fair the scapegoat.

but I feel like people are applying a pretty harsh adult lens to an issue that is about a little kid and a little common sense and decency should come into play.

I understand and agree about common sense and decency. While I have no way to know this, I'd be willing to bet the parents could've fixed this MUCH easier than the route they chose. But I completely understand the livestock show's position once the parents didn't. They have to have rules that everyone plays by... it doesn't matter if the kids are 9 or 19, or raising goats or steers.... you'd be surprised at the shenanigans parents and students play without black and white rules.

Oh, yeah. The mom **** the bed here, but the kid is paying the price.

Now she's gonna end up in rehab or become a expert criminal profiler for the FBI. Because she's going to hear the crying of the lambs and "want to get out, get away, get anywhere, get all the way to the F.B.I...."

And that's part of the point here... the kid's parents could've done a lot of stuff they didn't do. That's no fault of the fair or resale (floor) buyer.

Most ag teachers / school districts don't want those animals returning to school pens or farms as it creates a huge issue later. The animals are raised for meat production. They aren't pets. I get that it's hard to understand from outside that industry, but there is no positive outcome to yielding to the whims of parents and kids that open pandoras box here.
Outside the industry?

I showed heifers and steers for years (major shows and County) and we raised registered Herefords. My point is, if the kid wants to keep his market animal, they should be allowed to. If they don't have a place to keep it, they aren't likely to want it back. If they do have a place and want to eat that animal, or take it to another show, they shouldn't have to load it on a truck for some processor at floor price (minus that commission, of course).

Unless it violates the rules... and it appears they had every opportunity to seek the solutions you're offering and didn't. The goat sold.

Once that happens I believe the show and resale buyer - for its integrity - had every right (and duty) to do what they did.

Not intended specifically for you as there appeared to be many pontificating from points that made clear they weren't familiar with Youth Livestock Sales.

I'm not defending what they or the show did. Mom screwed up, and the rules are what they are. I'm just venting at the stock shows that force kids to turn over their project

I get it... unfortunately, it's a necessary evil in many or most instances. And the kids / patents know that's how it is beforehand.... it's not like a surprise "gotcha"

It's obviously a market animal, eating them is what they're for.

They should show dogs if they don't want to do it.

You completely missed my point. Who said anything about not eating it? Why does the stock show get to determine who gets to eat it and not the person who showed it? Many a family (and their relatives) has eaten show animals from county level fairs, but the big boys force kids to turn them over.

Doubt it. More likely she ends up a spoiled, woke, animal rights activist that cemets her feet in concrete in front of Starbucks to protest the higher cost of vegan milk options

I remember in 4-H there was one or two little kids who would sob and hug their market lamb after the sale. And then they put on their big kid pants and loaded the lamb onto the trailer. Nobody's mother absconded with the animal.

We had a deal where if you wanted to donate but did not want the meat, the initial buyer could donate the lamb back to 4-H and the kid would have to come back on the auction block and get sold until someone bought the actual animal. Gov Christie Todd Whitman bought my lamb in about 1994?? and then donated it back and it was resold again.

Yeah, all part of the carefully orchestrated liberal plan to destroy America with woke things. The goat was in on it too. Soros funded the whole thing. It's all in Hunter Biden's laptop.

Also, it is kind of bull**** that an almond milk latte is more expensive than a regular milk latte at Starbucks. Almond milk is cheaper at the grocery store. That protest is long overdue.

Dammit, I have to admit I broke down and clicked on this thread finally. 2 minutes I regret. Was just curious if it was a moslem seeking their goat back.

The same reason you can't take a calf to the auction barn and then snuggle with it.

If the auction is terminal, it's terminal.

If that is all there is to this story, then almost every adult in it is a moron, including the girls parents who didn't teach her a lesson about keeping your word. Some lessons in life are hard.

They attempted to withdraw the goat BEFORE the auction took place, but the fair said no. I don't think there's anything wrong with them and get deciding well before hand to back out. This is 100% on the fair officials.

But long before the auction started, the Long family changed their minds and wanted to take Cedar off the ticket. The fair denied the request and sold it - so the mom brazenly stole the goat back before it was given to the buyer.

ETA IMO the fair officials crossed way over the line into Karen territory with this. The mom wanted to withdraw because the little girl had lost 3 grandparents in the previous year, and she was going through a lot of emotional distress. That's entirely understandable. Regardless, the fair officials decided she needed to be taught a lesson, which is NOT their ****ing place. It's her parents' job to raise her and teach her life lessons, not theirs. There was absolutely no reason for them to slaughter the goat immediately before letting what amounts to a contract dispute work its way through the court, and the police, IMO, had no place in "independently" determining ownership and seizing it. If they can't "independently" determine if a squatter had a valid lease contract to evict, I find it incredibly hard to believe they can go seize an animal that hasn't even been paid for.

It's like somebody ate the Shadow and Bone comfort goat.

I think that, to be very honest with you, I do believe that we should have rightly believed, but we certainly believe that certain issues are just settled.
