Buck Sexton / Clay Travis show were talking about TikTok.

They were talking about some dude named Andrew Tate. They said he is some sort of influencer. According to Buck/Clay, this dude is actually influencing boys to be men and it's pissing off the left with their goal to make men into non-masculine humans.

Are the attacks on TikTok their refusal to censor the uni-party's narrative? We saw them all bust a gasket when Twitter no longer agreed to censor any narrative that went against the uni-party's narrative.

Up to now, my opinion is who gives a ***** Let China "spy" on TikTok. They can get whatever they want from Twitter, Facebook, TikTok anyway. Who cares where their server is located. I don't do social media, other than TexAgs, and certainly not TikTok.

But kids are most definitely on it. If the left's goal to brain wash our kids is being thwarted by TikTok, then I may be a fan. No matter where their "servers" are located.

there's tons of "brainwashing" content spanning the entirety of the political spectrum on tiktok. govt isn't trying to ban it because it's not woke enough, it's because it's literal spyware installed on hundreds of millions of americans' phones and belongs to a company that ultimately has to answer to the CCP.

Yeah...Gonna need to do a lot more than get rid of TikTok to shut-up Andrew Tate. He is currently sitting in a Romanian jail on trumped up charges. They're going to try to Epstein him before too long, but he claims he has a poison pill in the event of his untimely demise.

He may embellish some, but Tate is worth at least $100MM.

Not an IT expert but my understanding has always been that the video content is just the tip of the iceberg to keep people engaged with it. The real damage is the aggressive spying it does on the rest of the apps on your phone, including your contacts, location, text messages, etc.

The fact that this data goes (went?) straight back to communist China is concerning, especially considering how many government employees have the app installed on their phones.

the spyware elements are the main concern imo, but the video content is still a potential harm vector. it's not a stretch to imagine how china could use tiktok to wage information warfare by promoting certain content.

Isn't Tate all over YouTube though? I had no idea who this dude was until recently - I clicked on one video with him in to try to figure who he was and now my recommended videos feed is absolutely littered with the guy

It all started getting political when K-pop fans on TikTok signed up for all the tickets to Donald Trump's first post COVID, 2020 rally and it was poorly attended.

Is there really data on TikTok that's not available on all the other social media sites? I'm clueless about this and am very intrigued to find out. My reaction all along has been who cares. I don't have TikTok, but the show today got me curious.

TikTok has known aggressive data collection/harvesting methods when compared to other companies. That it's a creature of a place that has essentially zero remaining sense of privacy rights, that's obviously going to get some folks' dander up.

the tiktok app collects and tracks more information than, say, the twitter or facebook app does. the bigger concern: since tiktok is owned by bytedance which is a chinese company, the ccp can simply demand bytedance fork that data over and bytedance would have basically no choice but to comply. if the the ccp wanted to collect that information from american devices from facebook, instagram, twitter, etc. it would have to steal that information and circumvent whatever protections are in place to prevent that from happening.

in short, if you're china why bother spying on/influencing americans by hacking their facebook and twitter data when you can just create your own app that they willingly download and tracks even more data?

I mean he previously made comments to the effect that he lived in Romania because the threshold for getting in trouble for sex crimes is higher there. Based on that and also basically everything else about the dude, it's pretty plausible that he's the kind of guy who has reason to worry about that.

OK, thanks. I looked up TikTok aggressive data collection and there are several articles.

I can see why the government banned it's use on government isued devices and why certain businesses ban it from their company issued divices as well.

But a general ban by the government? Seems a bit dramatic.

OK, thanks. I looked up TikTok aggressive data collection and there are several articles.

It's a fair viewpoint to say it's too much to outright ban TiKTok, and there is a reason why it's been a subject of debate for like 4 years now without a real resolution.

Yep, and we know it's impossible for people to change their political view and voting tendencies.

If the Chinese have to spy using TikTok to get any useful info then they need to up their spy game. But given they been able to copy our fighters and other military hardware, I don't think TikTok is the problem.
