Sharks' James Reimer chooses not to wear Pride Night jersey and sit out warmups vs. Islanders

These events create anger and discord and some guy is forced to publicly defend his decision. Why are they still doing this? Either get rid of the Pride night or ignore players who believe public celebrating "pride" violates their conscience.

I'm thankful that my company hasn't forced anything like this on me yet. The day it comes in the form of a shirt or pullover/zip up that they pass out for us to wear at an event, hopefully I'll be able to ignore it and it won't be a major issue.

If gays are so proud, why do they need to shout how proud they are everyday, and everyone else needs to have events to celebrate how proud they are?

The only thing that separate gay from straight is in fact the manner in which they have sex. More importantly, only one of the ways is actually normal and if anything it should be the one we celebrate.

I remember a thread not too long ago where we were lectured: Reimer's word and deed here is true to form bigotry. This despite it going against deeply held personal convictions and religious beliefs.

You are literally not allowed to have even a faint distaste for someone else's sexuality unless it is heterosexuality.

This situation proves it perfectly.

I remember just yesterday when we were told on F16 by Democrats that conservatives are the ones forcing people to conform to their social beliefs.

Mike Rowe recently did an interview on his podcast and one of the topics of discussion hit on the difference and distinction between tolerance and acceptance.

I think we're all willing to tolerate gay marriage. We're all willing to tolerate the LGBTQ+ community. We're willing to tolerate those who identify as transgender.

Asking, rather, demanding however that we accept it is a completely different animal. As a protestant Christian I can tolerate Jews and their beliefs. I can tolerate Muslims and their beliefs on theology. Asking me however to accept those beliefs as my own, I cannot do that. It is counter to my beliefs, counter to my theology, it is counter to the very foundation of my religious conviction. I'm not comparing the the gay or trans community to religion, rather using religion as an analogy. For me to accept them in that manner would be counter to my own deeply held convictions. A similar analogy could be made for race. For a deeply avowed racist to accept a person of color would be akin to a leopard changing it's spots. However that deeply avowed racist can be asked to, or even legally compelled to, tolerate the POC on the sidewalk.

However, if they want to have a Texas Pride, Pro-America or event in support of the Armed Forces, I'm in full support of events like that.

Rockets game tonight is a bargain. Comes with a dri fit shirt sized two sizes too small.

Or, just make it completely optional.

Why do you care? I'm a straight hispanic make and i would go to each game, regardless if the night was made to cater to me.

Someone will come along and let us know that the true gay number is north of 40%. The 37% delta in the stats is due to a bunch of dudes in the ATL on the downlow and the uncounted homeless gays whose parents kicked them out of the nest only because they were gay.
