I like Summer Moon.

I've spoke with their corporate office a few times, and they are conservative and very non-political...to the point they will comb your social media, before awarding a franchise.

They do it right. They dont pick a side...they just focus on coffee.

I would but after dicking around on TA and churning my own butter, I don't where I would find the time
Its really not difficult. You dump the coffee into the roaster, set the timer, and walk away for the most part. Its a hell of a lot better tasting than anything you'll find at HEB and cheaper than buying decent stuff from a coffee shop.

I get it though, its kinda hipstery for a lot of people. Better than giving NeoCon grifters money though.
Dude I am just making jokes. I don't think it hipster at all, I think it's cool actually. I love people that actually know how to do stuff on their own. Jokes aside, I smoke salmon, make all my own jerky and snack sticks, make sausage, grind for burger and chop steak, make wine, grow my own vegetables, etc. It's fun, theraputic, and great skills to pass down to the kids.

My neighbor had a legit setup for a while. They would roast coffee and his girls sold it to save up for college. Probably the best coffee I've ever had. I've been tempted to do my own.

Do you have a roaster you recommend? And a place to get green coffee beans?
Sweet Maria's is where I get all my beans from (as well as the roaster). I got the smaller fresh roast and if I could go back in time I'd get the bigger one from the start. Mine's held up for a few years now but will probably crap out soonish. I'll just get the bigger one when it does.

If anybody knows of similar outfit based in Texas that would be great.

Pookers thanks for sharing this. I've been interested in getting into roasting some beans myself. When you said you should have gotten the large machine I'm assuming you mean the SR-800 in the link?

Correct. I drink quite a bit of coffee so I end up having to roast a couple times a week with the smaller one.

Additionally, I always just buy the green sample packs from there as well vs. trying to pick out different types of beans individually. Also, I'd recommend a burr grinder if you don't have one. The quality you get from roasting at home is reduced if you murder the beans with a lawn mower blade style grinder.

I'd also recommend roasting in the garage / back patio if possible as smoke alarms will go off.

Are the founders of BRCC devoted Christians? That is the only way I will maybe consider looking past some slight 2A disagreements.

Great info! For only $80.00 more the larger machine makes sense. I already have the burr grinder. My eye doctor actually owns a coffee plantation down in Mexico that I can also get green beans from. Thinking I'll give it a try!

It's been the best ~$200 I've spent on something. Plenty of youtube videos out there to watch as well on getting the roast / roast levels correct.

Yeah the whole "Tactical, bro!" thing just felt very fake and contrived to me, even before all the controversy started with them. But they marketed hard to get men from that demographic to fall for it just like other brands on social media market hard to soccer moms.

I roasted a few batches in a cast iron skillet on my egg. Turned out OK, I'm sure an actual coffee roaster would improve the speed and quality.

Thought briefly about getting a rotisserie kit for the egg and roasting that way, but never got around to it.

Several good local companies in Houston that roast, I can get beans that were roasted yesterday - just easier, though I did enjoy the entire process for what it was doing it at home.

I've never bought anything from them, but think they had good marketing for a while. I have been drinking HEB coffee for a bit now, which is also a woke company (or at least run by driveling leftists) in Texas as well, but whatever, at least they don't pretend to be conservative politically.

I just don't want to worry about my coffee pissing me off politically in the morning. I prefer it cheap, hot and black...
I buy HEB Donut Shop. Not a big coffee fan but it helps me get started in the morning and my cardiologist claims that multiple studies have shown a link between men who drink a couple of cups of black coffee a day and "improved blood flow".

I bought BRCC a few times years ago, mainly because Matt Best was associated with it and I thought his hot chicks, 'Murica, and guns schtick was funny. Didn't invest enough energy to get to the bottom of the controversies with them in recent years but read enough credible stuff to sway me away from buying their products.
I quit alcohol and now I am debating who is really right about caffeine, as I too have read/heard that some coffee is actually good for us. I dunno.

Huberman is one of those 'purists' imho who I don't really believe on everything, as I don't think he's really an expert on…all of the medicine/organs he goes through quickly/matter of fact style. In any case, I don't need more bad habits but a cup of coffee a day is one I am likely to hold onto. I doubt that causes adrenal stress, yada yada yada…

Well I know what I see with my own eyes. Both my parents have drank multiple cups of coffee their entire adults lives and are pushing 80 now and it great health relative to their age. It can't be that bad for you.

I stopped drinking sodas completely half a year ago. I hadn't drank regular sodas in probably 20 years just diet or "zero". But it can't be healthy. I survived nicotine withdraw as well at one point. Alcohol is pretty much a non factor these days because anything more than a few drinks makes me so sleepy I can barely stay awake.

Getting old sucks but is manageable.

Guilty as charged. Hot women in bkinis, humor, guns, patriotic messaging, the only thing that could have pulled in faster is if they added puppies and had ribeyes on a grill in the background.

Yep, I get pissed when I see people taking quality coffee and loading it up with sugar and cream. Black coffee lives matter.

Never heard of them. I've had thousands of gallons of coffee in my life, but these days I just use Jet Alert pills (3.5 cents each), Power Edge powder (20 cents each), and Energy Rush powder (22 cents each). Running 35 miles per week in Houston just doesn't go very well with coffee.

BRCC shop in my town shares an internal door with a local gun store.

All the Youtube gun bros you watch hangout at both places. Seems pretty pro 2A to me.

The "conservative" purity tests are my favorite. CEO of BRCC gives a bad personal take on Rittenhouse and its all REEEEE. As bad as the ****ing alphabet mafia.

My CEO went to Davos, guess I better return my bonus and let my kids starve for purity!

This.

BRC is, most likely, actually owned by some east coast financial group with the guys presented as the "owners" being nothing more than front men used to pull in certain demographics.

Apparently there was this:

The Rittenhouse-Black Rifle Coffee drama started back in November 2020 when podcast host Elijah Schaffer of The Blaze tweeted out a photo of Rittenhouse saying he "drinks the best coffee in America," referring to the shirt he was wearing.

Fast forward to July 2021 and Black Rifle Coffee attempted to rehabilitate their image. The New York Times interviewed the company's founders, with the opening paragraphs using the Capitol riot as a jumping off point for the discussion.

The same piece happened to describe how the Black Rifle Coffee brand gained its success off the backs of Trump supporters, and essentially this is the corporate media's framing for the apparent "dilemma" for the brand.

The closing of the piece has Black Rifle Coffee company CEO ranting about the people who supported Kyle Rittenhouse. "It's such a repugnant group of people. It's like the worst of American society, and I got to flush the toilet of some of those people that kind of hijacked portions of the brand," said Hafer.
