https://thehill.com/homenews/nexstar_media_wire/3880009-bill-to-make-daylight-saving-time-permanent-reintroduced-in-congress/amp/

Quote:

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who introduced the Sunshine Protection Act last year, filed a bill on Wednesday that would make daylight saving time permanent. So far, the bill, the Sunshine Protection Act of 2023, has bipartisan support in the Senate, and has been referred to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

"This ritual of changing time twice a year is stupid," Rubio said in a statement Thursday morning. "Locking the clock has overwhelming bipartisan and popular support. This Congress, I hope that we can finally get this done."

Agreed. It's stupid. Leave the clocks alone.
Trump will fix it.

Hey, attitudes like that are why we still change the clocks twice a year.
Trump will fix it.

If there is a permanent time it must be standard time... If you made DST permanent you would have the sun not rising til 9 in the winter.

Don't move north then. Even with DST it doesn't rise until after 9a in the winter.

I can drive to work in the dark.

DST means I have more sunlight AFTER work when I can actually DO things...

Ding ding. This is why permanent daylight savings will never get implemented.

In Texas it is a mere personal preference. Do you prefer solar noon to happen at noon or 1pm. Doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

But it's the populated northeast and their schoolkids going to and coming home from school with some daylight that makes daylight time during the winter unworkable.

I thought they already made DST permanent starting this year?
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

It's standard time right now bro. 12:00 noon is when the sun is directly overhead.

Why would I care about noon?

I care about AFTER WORK when I have more time to do things with daylight.

Your username clearly doesn't check out unless you are a typical "me me me" boomer with grown kids.... The sun should be up before school begins. They need more sleep than you do.

ridiculous.

they somehow manage half the year.

and have their noses buried in their cell phones the rest of the time.

people adapt to the changes when they occur. they cam adapt to this permanently as well.

So does that mean for the kids above the Arctic circle that they don't go to school for months in a row?

I also don't understand how DST affects the number of hours of sleep. I sent my kids to bed at the same time before and after DST and woke them up at the same time in the morning.

There are Gen X with grown kids...

And wtf does needing more sleep have to do with whether or not the sun is up or not? Make them ****ing go to sleep earlier. Or are you a ****ty parent that allows them to dictate their bedtime?

My kids met the bus in the dark for years. In Texas. Bus picked them up at 0600. We lived in the sticks and my kids were the second stop for the bus driver (who lived down the road from us).

Oh no. However did my little snowflakes survive that?????

Yes. Those kids do not get any sleep for 6 months out of the year.

I don't know where you live, but the latest the sun rose in the DFW area was 7:30am in mid January.

In Cleveland, the latest is 7:53am around the same time. In NYC, its around 7:20am the first week of January.

Where in the hell is it anywhere near 9:00?

So what? And it might be around 0730, 0745 at the latest. Nowhere near 9.

You know what is also awesome? Having daylight in the afrernoon when you get back home from work. Wasting sunlight driving to the office and then getting home at dark is dumb.

Amazing how easily i was able to cope with no clock changes when i lived in AZ.

I bet you could also cope as well.
