Two things:
1. If you think this has been a pleasant experience for Disney you are delusional. They lost tens of billions in value, had massive brand damage, and fired their CEO. The message was sent not only to Disney but to other companies. The fact they may or may not be able to limit the damage is secondary. If you think this was truly about how much Disney pays in taxes on their property at Disneyworld you are lost in the weeds.
Yep, but to paraphrase a former sip coach, that's a core Disney Inc. value these days. They'll go all Rick Astley on that one.Ellis Wyatt said:They should stop sexualizing children. It's simple.aggie93 said:

So ESPN+ has already essentially stopped growing and missed forecasts by almost a million subscribers. Not great, Bob. Means the @espn broadcast network is losing subscribers & streaming, which is losing tons of money, is no longer growing. Looks like two bad businesses to me. https://t.co/rjFsGKl9tM

Disney has two options with @espn: 1. Roll rapidly collapsing business profits into other more lucrative business investments at company. 2. Sell or spin off ESPN for as much cash as you can while you still can. Neither are great options. Conclusion is inevitable now: ESPN’s a…

You missed the part where the bill was passed by the legislature and signed into law by DeSantis. It wasn't an EO that DeSantis issued.blacksox said:one MEEN Ag said:
Not a legal scholar (check the username) but I assume this is eventually going to go the Florida supreme court under the question of, 'how much power can a corporation wrestle away from the state before they run afoul of sovereignty claims.'
It seems that Disney's move puts the state as subservient to the corporation against the state's will. Disney's move probably won't survive a conservative supreme court's opinion.
Well, that's a swing and a miss. The question is if meatball Ron can abuse his power as governor enough to undue, sidestep or end around the covenants enacted by Reedy.
Reedy was created by the State and the State can and has taken it away. DeSantis has stepped on every base as he went and used the Legislature to do so. Everyone forgets that DeSantis himself is a Harvard trained lawyer and he has a lot of other very, very smart people around him. In the end he also has a tremendous amount of power as Governor as well and Courts and a Leg on his side, Disney has decided they didn't learn a lesson the first time and now they are going to get kicked in the balls since the slap on the face wasn't enough.blacksox said:one MEEN Ag said:

DeSantis can't stop Disney from selling Conference rooms to people he doesn't like. It's not only an abuse of power and likely illegal it would be unpopular. Instead he is going to hurt Disney in other ways until they finally figure out that they need to change their ways or get bought out because shareholders don't like losing billions for social justice causes that most people don't even agree with.Ellis Wyatt said:They should stop sexualizing children.
