Alex is back on the stand for cross exam about his financial crimes. Maybe the AG gets to asking questions about the murder charges, maybe not as this prosecution seems not to have much interest in the actual murders.

We are in session, bringing the jury.

Alex is obviously a sleeze ball, possible murder, thief, downright crappy person, however if I needed a lawyer I'd be okay with him representing me. He's good.

AG Waters is providing motive for many people to have wanted to hurt Alex. Defense will hammer that in closing.

how does that help convict Alex of murder though?

I guess there doesn't need to be a trial for financial crimes since he's, already under oath, admitted to stealing all that money!

It doesn't. Gives reasonable doubt. Then add in the many ways in which SLED botched the murder investigation, whether through incompetence (likely) or deliberately and there is reasonable doubt for any juror to focus on and hang the jury.

That's my prediction right now. Hung jury.

Think its very safe to say now the state has zero chance of conviction of murder. This is brutal.

Wow! AM was taking ~2000mg per day at times. That's 60-70 30mg pills per day.

Plea deal. Minimum security for financial crimes without a murder conviction. Angling for a better prison environment. If he goes to what SC calls Close Security prison, he'll be murdered.

finally the state is getting somewhere....maybe saying he was having withdrawls and couldn't get drugs and snapped and killed them?

I don't think AG Waters has any familiarity with drug addiction. He is a white collar financial crime prosecutor and is the one handling all of the other financial crimes. He is not the one to try a murder case, obviously. Most prosecutors would have not brought a murder case based on the evidence he has, or rather lack of evidence.

Waters is getting close to 5th Amendment issues and burden shifting.

Judge said, "Sit down Mr. Griffin!" Major problem.

I have seen that in civil court but never in a criminal trial where a defense attorney is making an objection (without dismissing the jury first) that is.

That is an appellate issue. Judge should never do that in front of the jury.

Judge wrong on that one too. Wasn't asking about National TV interview, was asking about what Alex told his attorney which is definitely privileged

Judge has discretion but he has made some serious errors today.

Yeah, I'm no lawyer but I'm not understanding how that wasn't trying to violate his 5th.

Yes. That was very close to being a mistrial. And the judge rebuking defense counsel because of it makes it much worse.

The only thing I can come up with is AM was testifying adamantly that he/his lawyers tried to reach out to the prosecution before he was charged and Waters was asking for more details on that (since Waters is surprised or acting surprised). AM brought it up himself.

Appeals court be able to overturn, due to judges bias?

Alex contradicting himself on the paranoia. Now saying paranoia only came related to pills but yesterday that was his justification for not telling police about being at kennels. Waters seems to have him on the ropes there but just let him go.

AM was suffering withdrawals on 6/6.

ETA - and it sounds like 6/7 AM later testified he did take pills on 6/7

not sure I'm buying the Maggie and Paul pressuring AM about the pills. Even the texts AG enters shows that Maggie had no problem leaving him at hotel alone and wasn't saying anything about pill or even passive-aggressively trying to guilt him into coming to the game.

I don't even have a pill addiction, but my wife would not be so kind to me if I was snoozing it up in the hotel room until 1pm

AM did take pills on 6/7 so he was not withdrawing at the time of the murders. I'll edit my post above.

He said she was concerned about Paul...but I didn't hear a follow up question about what.

Waters is being really snarky here. Saying "new story" over and over again.

AG is hammering the timeline still but I don't understand how it helps the states case. Yeah, it seems very unlikely that he didn't go back to the house and "nap" after the video, but I dang sure know it would take a pretty long time for Alex to have (1) gotten himself armed with a shotgun and a rifle, (2) wait for Paul to come out of feed room to shoot him, (3) spin around and take down Maggie with a different weapon, (4) get back to the house and get rid or whatever he was wearing and all traces of blood, (5) change out of clothes, (6) get rid of weapons, (7) dump Maggie's cell phone, all before heading into town to see his mom.

I think it probably would take a bit longer to do all that than it would to say he was leaving and going back to the house.
