We used to go to those races. Occasionally there would be a one on one fight but it was a lot more safe and orderly than this. Driving 1/4 mile in a straight line is a lot different than hot rods doing donuts pedal to the metal next to large groups of dumbass people. You can go to YouTube and see highlights of the carnage from these events. It's super dangerous. They're just not in the same ballpark.

I used to race years ago, but back then we never had to worry about people pulling guns or using fire workers or riots because the demographic was very different. It was mostly whites, Asians, and Hispanics and car culture was still a very big thing to respect for both the cars and the people was a lot higher. Everyone actually looked under the hood and talked about the cars.
Now? It's all about being destructive and disruptive. At least one or two people get shot because the demographic doing it is very different. The cars are completely immaterial and have little to do with what is happening.
