Okay. Then let me clarify. What they were doing and street racing is for trash people.

You wanna race, go to the track.

You do realize most cities dont have tracks right.

Why don't we just give Austin to the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia where they belong and then the sips could join the PAC- 12 (-2)?

I live in Austin, and I didn't even know about the street racing chaos on Lamar Blvd and Barton Springs until this morning. It's crazy how all four separate incidents happened just the night before the Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5k. I picked up my packet for the Austin Half Marathon at the Palmer Events Center at around noon on Saturday afternoon, and I stayed home the rest of the day. I ran the Austin Half Marathon in 1:47:34.1 yesterday morning. This is a consequence of the liberals "Defund Police" movement. Austin's liberal policies have enabled lawlessness, crime, homelessness and poverty.

Austin Police is looking into several "street takeovers" that happened across the city over the weekend. According to a press release from the department, they responded to four different "street takeover" incidents on Saturday night. During these takeovers, APD said the crowd threw rocks and bottles and pointed lasers at officers.

According to a press release, APD said it all started at approximately 9:01 p.m. A caller said five vehicles were blocking the intersection of Barton Springs Road and South Lamar Boulevard. Not long after, multiple people called 911 about "vehicles racing, circling the intersection, running red lights and shooting fireworks." APD said there were no units nearby, so officers arrived at the scene at 9:23 p.m. The area was cleared at 9:46 p.m. But, they said it appeared the 'Car Club' continued to head North.

APD wrote, "At 10:27 p.m., an officer in the area of North Interstate 35 Service Road and East Anderson reported the 'Car Club' was at this location. Multiple vehicles began to drive recklessly, blocking the intersection and driving in circles disregarding traffic laws. Officers again dispersed the crowd."

A few hours later at 12:52 a.m., officers responded to the area of Berkman Drive and Barbara Jordan Boulevard because of multiple 911 calls. "The officers reported glass bottles being thrown and again were able to disperse the crowd at 1:07 a.m.," the press release said.

The last incident happened at 1:35 a.m. APD said the 911 calls stated, "vehicles were blocking the Metric Boulevard and Braker Lane intersection, doing donuts, and someone starting a fire." The crowd was dispersed at 1:56 a.m.

APD said two people were arrested for allegedly evading arrest. The department said its investigation into this incident continues, and further charges may be filed.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize there weren't any tracks in most cities. Why didn't you say so? By all means go ahead and race on a public street where there's a chance you could kill/maim some innocent person driving home from their late shift at work. Totally worth the risk.

It's a public street. Sorry you can't hoon your Challenger.

Growing up in Austin in the 70's and 80's, we had car guys in high school who would work on their cars (lots of old Cameros and Firebirds) and race them. They never raced in the middle of the city.

And my point isn't about racing, it's about the losers there who get away with assaulting the police.

Note: This is one of the 2 council members who is relatively pro-police.

Disagree.

It culture copycat. These guys saw other hoodrats doing it in videos and copied it. Been happening in Houston for years now as well. Really took off during Covid. Called "Street takeover."

We had a similar event in the parking lot of a flea market in San Antonio a couple of years ago. No injuries from the drifting, but some idiots got carried away with the fireworks and some appendages were lost. SAPD has been cracking down lately, and it seems to have been helping.

https://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/Several-arrests-multiple-injuries-after-street-15844184.php

Years ago when drag racing was still cool and drifting was seen as a waste of tires, the cops often encouraged the street racers to take it to a track and keep it off the streets. I don't know what big parking lot would want these turds on their property.

This has nothing to do with racing and we should stop calling it that. This is out of control lawlessness and isn't going to stop with writing a few of them a ticket , weeks later after reviewing all the footage.

Cops need to wreck a few of their cars and crack a few skulls while going viral.

Like this?

Up in San Antonio they arrest, then lefty judges let them out.
SAPD arrests 24 in street racing sting, judge dismisses most cases hours later

'Violent and disruptive': Police chief says 'street takeover groups' have been arrested in San Antonio

In the old days vigilante groups would crack down on these hooligans.
A few ax handles to the noggin might be the attitude adjustment they need.

Impound their vehicles, pending stiff fines. That'll help. Racers and traffic blockers helping them. Yeah the ****ty urban DA lets the off due to equity racism but you have to at least try something.

I agree a big box of nails tossed on the area would stop it pretty fast.

You clearly didn't read anything I've posted. But you can't claim, "race at the track" when there is in fact no track.

Like I said before, we raced on country farm roads in south Texas. This isn't racing. These are ******s doing donuts at an intersection.

This really isn't a hard subject.

If there's no track than don't race, period. Your street racing hobby isn't even remotely worth injuring someone random so that you can drag a tuned out mustang. The only way racing is acceptable is on a track where the only those that signed up for it have a chance to Darwin themselves out of existence.

There are plenty of tracks in the area. Discounting COTA, which is expensive to do track days at, there's Harris Hill in Austin. There's a drag strip up around Temple. Houston had MSRH. DFW has MSRC, and Eagles Canyon, and G2 now. That's not counting dirt tracks or drag strips in smaller towns.

These people don't want to race, they don't want to pay for a track, and they don't want to behave in the safe and responsible manner that track racing requires Lack of tracks is not the issue.
