I certainly wouldn't assume that. There are so many cops,etc on site now that SOMEONE would have taken them out just walking the streets like that.

Dispatch gets a lot of info during info like this, doesn't make it accurate. Most actually ends up being wrong.

However, they have to pass it onto the cops so they know there could be 3 shooters.

Large groups of students standing around outside in areas with police around.

So how many radio channels do the cops usually use? We can all listen to the scanner but how many other channels are being used ?

All depends on what system the cops use, and what equipment the feed provider is using.

Some departments will go to an encrypted channel and no way to listen in when that happens.

Some feeds will only monitor 1 public channel; others monitor multiple.

Sometimes they'll send it out to the offices' phones instead.

One reason departments use encrypted channels is just on the slight chance the bad guy is listening.

They may not have encryption on their radios. This is a university PD, after all.

Started around 8:18PM at Berkey Hall.

Shooter moved to another building nearby, the MSU Union Building.

So far the number shot is 5; all have been transported to the hospital.

1 shooter. Police are looking at surveillance footage and will release images soon.

Suspect is reported to be a black male, short, red shooter, jean jacket, ball cap.

All campus activities canceled for 48 hours.

Officer said that there is a ton of bad information from social media, scanner feeds, and calls to the police.

Picture of the suspect coming in a few minutes.

There will be another press conference at midnight local time (Eastern time).
