Elizabeth Banks Defends 'Controversial' 'Cocaine Bear' Scene of Kids on Drugs: 'There Were Conversations'
The R-rated film features a scene in which two kids (played by Brooklynn Prince and Christian Convery) stumble on abandoned cocaine in the woods and try it. Banks, 48, told Variety there were discussions behind the scenes on how to handle that moment in the action-comedy.
In 2023 libs think it is all good when kids change their gender through drugs and surgery.
What is a little top-level recreation drug of the 1980s movie reference?
Seems so "Hollywood" boundary pushing.

Banks explained that she wanted to make a "muscular and masculine" movie with Cocaine Bear (which is inspired by a true story) and "break down some of the mythology around what kinds of movies women are interested in making." She added that she demanded the film retain its shocking title.
Reads like she embraces "toxic masculinity."
Unsure if that is a good thing or not anymore.

Kids should not be sexualized nor induced to use illegal narcotics.
This is the age where kids order drugs over social media and end up dead from fentanyl.
They also eat Tide pods.
I do think back to many movies of the 1970s to 1990s where teens were smoking pot.
That seems so innocent and tame now.

I think the movie takes place in the 1980s that was not a "thing" then.

Meh...mediocre by celeb standards. In 10 years she'll look like she was wet and hung up to dry like Chelsea Handler.

Are they snorting it or did they simply poke around on it an inhale it?

Really though, we have the son of the current POTUS doing every kind of drug on camera and raping his underage niece.

For me, thats more important to address than a silly movie about a cocaine ravaged bear. Hunter is the gleaming example of the law not applying to privileged white kids. Thats more influential then a movie that is likely to bomb.

I wonder if the movie theater will let me bring my own blow to cheer on the bear.

Not sure, but to me it's worded as if they knowingly use it. I get the "it's R rated" "just don't see it" takes. But I don't know, this seems pretty f-ing deviant and perverted in a way. I guess I'm just sick of Hollywood and the left constantly trying to tear away at the innocence of children.

Also, Beavis and Butthead consumed peyote dropped acid in their 1990's era movie - and they were just teenagers.

Traffic had kids using all sorts of drugs. I will withhold judgment until I see the scene. Cutting it up, spreading it on a mirror and snorting it through a Hello Kitty glass pipe may be different context then opening a bag and inhaling.

Edit to correct B&B drug usage.

Bro, these look like 3rd Graders. Traffic was a sad drama about the dangers of HS kids getting hooked on drugs. I agree with you, withholding judgment for now. Hell, they could just be trying to stir controversy by making it out to be something way worse than it is.

Although to me it's still pretty degenerate/trashy even if there is a comedic scene where little kids are accidentally high on cocaine though imo. I don't know, small children on hard drugs (or even high from second hand weed smoke) just isn't funny to me. Maybe having kids has changed me.

They are 12 for 5th/6th graders and Banks explains why they included the scene when it would not have worked with "older" kids.

However, I would agree that it is likely completely unnecessary to the movie. If they get too much criticism, they'll just delete.

Well, the "true story" its supposedly based on was a bear that got into some cocaine and immediately died, so maybe it did.

I really, really like her in nearly everything. However, I just cannot get over how her character did JD dirty in Scrubs.... I know I shouldn't link the two.. I know it but for some reason, I can't quite get past that.

These are the people that want your kids at the Drag Queen story hour and you think they'd draw the line at a little blow? If it's up to them there will be no more childhood. Just vertically challenged "pre-adults". They love them some re-definitions.

Typical F16 getting outraged by a movie scene nobody has seen yet. It's literally an R-rated dark comedy for adults for crying out loud. I guess we are only supposed to watch Hallmark movies?

Some of you'll are as toxic as the people you complain about.

pretty sure it's Variety who is trying to stoke outrage. Then posters tossing around speculation. Personally, I'm not sure how a kid on cocaine would be discernible from one on sugar…

The sugar withdrawals are much, much more severe and difficult to deal with.

Yes, where Pablo Eskobear found the cocaine, consumed it and died without further incident.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocaine_Bear_(bear)

Although it was stuffed (regular no longer with cocaine) and later owned by Waylon Jennings.
