Was quite arguably the biggest quantum liberal jump in US history. But he was a Texas boy in the hill country and it was the early 60s. What gives?
True. Most people don't understand how Reconstruction also affected Texas state politics. There was the conservative wing of the Dem Party, There was the moderate wing of the Dem Party and then there was the liberal wing of the Dem Party. They battled amongst themselves during the state elections then fell in line with what DC leadership wanted them to do.Eliminatus said:
Because Texas used to be blue for the majority of its existence? Texas being Republican is still fairly new. Some of the posters here remember. Flipped in the early 80's I believe.
California used to be pretty damn red in that same time frame.

Don't know how long you have lived in Texas but the state was blue until the early 80s.Quantum Entanglement said:

The premise of the question is wrong. I would argue that Woodrow Wilson's administration was the biggest quantum liberal jump in US history, followed by Franklin Roosevelt, with LBJ being a close third.Quantum Entanglement said:

The refusal to believe that paternalistic racism is a thing and a thing that goes back to slavery days, just amazes me.D-Fens said:
He was a typical racist Democrat that knew hooking blacks on gov would keep them on sidelines of capitalism. He posed as the blacks benefactor on camera and was dropping n bombs off. Like modern day Hillary going on breakfast club to pander about hot sauce in her purse, or Biden going to black church for photo op.
They either think blacks are inferior and in need of government, or they want to politically enslave them for votes.... its racist either way.
Funny how most Democrats fall into this mode. Maybe he was the genesis of the obscene todays obscene Dem. At least the media back then reported the stories, albeit left leaning, they did report the stories.Owlagdad said:CoachO_08 said:

Fred or Caney Head?!?
The great dichotomy to LBJ was Sam Rayburn. Rayburn was the longest serving House Speaker in history and you could argue that from 1957-61 when Rayburn was Speaker and LBJ was Majority Leader that Texas had more power than at any time in US history.Sid Farkas said:

He was a prototypical Democrat.
