Protecting his property from what? It "appears" that he was indiscriminately firing rounds back toward his home. A police cruiser is seen passing by at the time of the discharge. As several have already stated, there are number of unfortunate factors, by both parties, that contributed to his fatal shooting. Let the investigation run it's course.dead said:

And when the cops show up they're supposed to be downloaded with a 100% accurate, real time, assessment of the situation and give every deference to the dude firing an AR in to a home and be willing to sacrifice their lives for said individual by taking whatever great risks random message board posters find fit. I have a wife and two kids at home. This! Already rules in the book. Never fire indiscriminately!
We have laws against firing weapons indiscriminately for many obvious reasons. This guy was going to injure someone if the police did not intervene.
