He would have approached this as a business deal where we trade something of value in exchange for something else of value. In this case we traded something of value in exchange for one person only to gain some goodwill with a squawking special interest group.

If I was the state dept rep, as a condition of release, I would of advocated that the Griner has to live in Russia working and living as the average citizen in russia lives. No special treatment or funds made available.
