Yeah, I wouldn't get too hung up on the USMC detail. It appears he at one time wanted to be an Army Ranger, and then I believe the affidavit even states that he had applied for a job with the Pullman police department.

From high school yearbook:

(Looks eerily similar to Jonah Hill there)

A reminder to everyone about this affidavit it was crafted for one reason, to obtain a warrant for his arrest. Bare bones essential to achieve that purpose alone.

Now the other thing I find interesting is the number of search warrants they obtained based on open source records. And if BK was a better driver and not have had that traffic stop wherein they had his cell phone number to narrow that search to a specific phone, they might still be looking for a suspect.
If he had not used his own car and left behind the knife sheath (really the biggest link) they'd have a lot of trouble finding him and pinning it on him.

EDIT: as you stated, it's the minimum to arrest him. There could be a lot more like blood or skin samples that will match.

Wow, my buddies and I were talking about this at golf this weekend and the immense survivor's guilt those two young women were going to be saddled with the rest of their lives. Now to find out she saw the guy inside the house. He is going to be killing them just about every day for the rest of their lives. Horrifying.

At this point I expect he searched for info while on the WSU IT network. Also little chance he scrubbed all his DNA from the college office

They were onto the white Elantra pretty quickly but that is a popular color and type of car for college students and there were apparently 90 such cars registered in the area including parking passes for campus at ID U and WSU.

Had he used a burner phone or left his phone at home during the incidents of casing out the house, they would still be looking for a DNA match on an unidentified single source make DNA. In the process of running all of the white Elantras in the area, his pops up because of the registration in Washington state a few days after the murder. They now have a name to conduct more searching. The traffic stop pops up. They now have bodycam video of him in the car and with a specific cell phone number being told to the cop.

Now they have a specific cell phone connected to his name and car, time for a broader warrant on the activity on the cell phone. And the geolocation using cell phone towers and the pings.

So car ID>change in registration provides name>search of name provides traffic stop video>provides specific cell phone number>provides cell phone tower geolocation>provides large number of times car was in the area of the house>provides enough for a pen register on the use of that cell phone going back to when he first got it in June 2022>provides the location of the parents home>take the trash from the home>Idaho State Police lab matches DNA from trash to that of a paternal relation to the suspect DNA from the knife sheath> provides probable cause for a search of BK's person by buckle swab>matches Suspect DNA from the knife sheath.

So was this guy just obsessed with these particular girls, or was he a budding serial killer? The most prolific serial killers that have been caught generally seem to have followed one strict rule - don't **** in your own backyard. You'd think a PhD in criminal justice would know that.

Why though? Sorry if I missed it. Why randomly pull a white guy in a crap car over twice?

Absolutely blows my mind how these barbaric murderous freaks can looks so cool and collected, not a care in the world, as if walking into a business meeting. Obviously he's a complete sociopath, but still can't wrap my mind around it. Not just no remorse, no stress...facing certain life in prison or execution...and living with the vivid images of what he did, which he may very well get off on.

Just unfathomable to any sane person. I am more nervous and antsy in court for a traffic offense.

Understand and good summary.

So the phone was also a huge screw up.

So don't use your own stuff when committing a murder and it's a lot harder to catch you.

The FBI had the state and local police pull him over to get a video of his hands.

Interesting, I clearly need to do much more catching up on this to make sense of it all.

So many cameras these days that a killer's route in an urban setting is pretty much certain to get captured. Renting is an option, but that still leaves a transaction history.

I wonder how fast the DC sniper gets caught in 2022

I was wondering the same thing. It looks like he took an indirect path to PA, taking IH70 through Indianapolis instead of going through Chicago.

And his dad was in his car and on the traffic stop he had his phone plugged in and google maps up on his leg...wondering how he was convinced to go such an odd way home instead of the fastest route.

I've been avoiding learning about these murders because it is a horrific situation and there was so much speculation. Now that a suspect has been identified and more 'official' information has been released, can you point to a good summary, whether video or written, of this case from the beginning? I realize that this thread is a gold mine but 57 pages is a long read. Thanks in advance.

Didn't they work at a vegan restaurant or was that conjecture? Guy comes in, tries the cool pick up stuff, they blow him off there or at a party/bar. Gets his jimmies rustled and starts the stalking, becoming more furious every contact. Thought he had a known history in the area of being a bit of a creeper or misogynist.

Probably weather related. Sioux Falls shows rain on the 13th and then freezing temps and snow for the next few days.

See. This is where "find my phone" comes in handy.

Plug into a battery pack and tape the thing to someone's car at a truck stop.

Then go find it later.

Constantly moving and never dark.

Yea, I mean you don't go to a bar and hit on the bartender or waitress. They were probably initially friendly to him (their job to be friendly also incentivized to get a better tip) he then pushed the boundaries to the point of where they shut him down, possibly in front of others and embarrassed him. He gets mad and built up in a rage, goes stalking their internet profiles etc… small town in idaho, possibly waits outside the bar for them to leave and follows them home. Then it's all downhill from there, the fascination grows and everything is set in motion
