To be clear, it is a part of the embassy, not apart from it.
The job the handful of servicemen are doing is the same job (Attache and Defense Cooperation) they did at the embassy before the war started. There are guys doing the same thing at almost every US embassy in the world. It's only recently that our Kiev embassy has been fully restaffed, including the military guys in those two embassy offices doing the weapons inspections and inventories.
It's routine and a return to normal embassy ops.
