After you buy your Hummer EV they'll sell you a home energy management system.
I'm not sure if people genuinely believe someone is going to say, "Wow, if some people say I'm a moron for not believing this, it clearly must be true."

It's not much a persuasive argument. It really just sounds like a bunch of miniature dachshunds barking because the first one one barked when it thought it heard something.

Tesla is going to try and do the same here in Texas with Tesla Energy Ventures

They'll use the car's battery to "keep the lights on for 21 days".

More like a few hours if it's 100+ degrees outside in Texas.

Ha ya I don't care about lights, give me AC.

Just put regenerative brakes on your house, then wire them into a battery system that powers the house. Your house is ALWAYS stopped.....endless energy.

The fact you thought this was funny based on the hurricane evacuation thread just demonstrates you have maybe a third grade understanding of electricity...

What thread?

I just made that **** up. I dont read every thread. Being as I went to school for EE currently work at a company that actually makes EV batteries and other electrical stuff...I'm claiming a 4th grade level, TYVM.

This is why the big bet on lithium is so important. Even if the EV market isn't as big as advertised initially, we need a revamping of our aged energy. Home batteries, solar, etc will help reduce the burden on the energy grid for homeowners and empower them to potentially contribute back and get a windfall in lesser months and keep them insulated in greater months.

Lithium is the key, refining, recycling, etc. It reminds me of the ole horse and buggy days when cars were first coming on the scene. We will see the gradual change over to this form greater than you all think.

It's coming, twenty years? Maybe ten? Who knows, but it is coming.

I think lithium is primed for obsoletion or certainly a reduction in use. Its just not efficient enough vs size / weight to become more pervasive.

The Thorium reactors are more promising long-term energy generation for residences.

Now if you wanted home energy backup with 99% less environmental impact then a wall of batteries, may I suggest a natural gas powered generator?

I hear you on thorium reactors but recycling and cost of lithium will reduce. Cars and batteries will be lithium driven first. Nuclear and thorium is definitely the better way to go but we are much farther for that.

I believe it got nuked because a certain beloved poster went off the rails. It was the one with everyone saying a Tesla or EV would be horrible during a hurricane evacuation because the battery wouldn't last in a 10 hour traffic jam like an ICE engine could, and then proceeded to make fun of Teslag and others for, rightfully, pointing out that an EV would a) recapture a lot of energy through regenerative breaking in such conditions and b) consume only negligible energy while "idling" and not moving since it's not performing any work, as opposed to an ICE vehicle that is constantly burning fuel at idle.

Apparently, many of our college educated posters could not understand that a circuit only draws power when it is closed.

The major problem would be fires. One house fire would take forever to put out. Could take other houses along with it.

And they are just getting started turning every salt bed into a rainbow of leach ponds. Congrats!

I am sure there is nothing in those ponds that comes with a California Prop 65 warning... nothing at all.

Was that the same "beloved poster" who asked how the car can indicate its charge level to the driver if the electric grid is down? Man that was funny.

I think problem is that the college educated posters you're referencing made up their mind about EV before they learned how it works.

Ah. At "idle", an EV is just a high tech battery pack.

I can't wait for all the campaigns against battery companies and EVs in 20 years when Libs realize that battery production and usage are actually more harmful to the environment. They'll conveniently forget they were the people who ran off the efficient, established, and increasingly cleaner energy a out of town.

Kind of like Corona and it's actual health impacts on society and the Corona shot disaster

Can someone with an EV answer an honest question for me? In regard to idiling and using no power, do EVs completely go into sleep mode when they are stopped? It seems to me that all the electronics are still on and consuming some power at least. Sure the motors use by far the greatest amount, but I would think there is some drain still. What about AC? Does that shut off as well?

If your AC shuts off at idle, I guarantee you that getting out of south FL in that season would not be fun.

I frankly don't care and the only reason you do is to snub the eye of the green movement. Who cares about the green movement? It's largely wrong anyway, but getting our country toward a better energy grid is important. Nuclear and thorium is clearly the way to go for cities, but houses and cars can't be thorium and nuclear dependent. You already have lithium powering your phones and laptops so buckle up.

One thing you can be sure of, the left won't want lithium pits in their backyard, Brazil however is all about it. Partner up with some lithium companies down there like SGML or ATLX.

Exactly, and it was on purpose. Who cares about lights in Texas? I have all sorts of devices that provide light, but none of them keep me from sweating or freezing my ass off. Neither will an electric car hooked up to my home.

This isn't hard.

Not an EV expert (lord knows we have many here), but undoubtedly all of the electronics on the car could be powered on an running and still consume much less energy that the electric motors consume when hurling two tons of metal, glass and lithium down the highway. A/C will of course still draw power, more than the electronics but still much less than the motors. It only has to run a compressor and fan.

I would also think when parked in your garage, there would be very few electronics powered on and drawing current.

So they can turn up your AC thermostat and throttle your EV charging. Because it's "bad for the grid". Woke green bull####
