Someone mentioned that the cost of these vehicles spiked a bit after the spending bill and the associated tax credits.

If anyone has a link or data I would appreciate it. I'd like to use it in a debate about this student loan bull**** today. If it is not true i just won't use it.

it's also pointless...virtually zero EV's qualify under the requirements of the bill anyway, so the $8500 increase isn't even offset by a tax credit.

The bill gives a $7500 tax credit, but stipulates sourcing of materials and final assembly be in the US. These sourcing and assembly requirements will increase the cost of the EV above the $7500 tax credit. Ford has announced an $8500 increase, others haven't announced the increase yet.

EVs will not turn out to be the panacea promised. They are not cost effective and are heavily subsidized. Technically they are an expensive golf cart for local use. They are also ugly.

They do not work well in the hot climates demanding AC use. It reduces the range and that is not mentioned. Additionally the charging burden to the grid will end up being a real deterrent.

Rivian has dropped the cheapest versions of their truck and SUV which results in a $5,500 increase so they did a little bit of an end around on it.

Also, the average cost of an EV is $20K higher than an ICE car (source: WSJ) so thanks to the Democrats who are making everything more expensive and punishing the middle class.

There was already a $7,500 tax credit before the bill. All the bill did was take away the maximum number of cars each manufacturer can sell with credits available while simultaneously add a lot of caveats that will limit the EV's that qualify, like income and price limits. The prices went up for the same reasons that everything went up this year.

Lol.
Literally one of the best things about my EV is I can turn on the A/C using an app on my phone before I go out in the parking lot and it's icy cold when I open the door. Running the A/C has minimal effect on the range in my experience.

I must have missed that on all the cars I've bought lately. Clearly, the Jag, Porsche and Jeep I have bought in the last two years just aren't with the program. I can't turn on the A/C on those cars from a mile away and let it run while I walk the 15 minutes to it. But if you say so, okay. To the other poster's point though, the A/C on electric cars is great.

Nice humble brag on the Porsche and Jag.... but a $30k Ford or Chevy will turn the AC on for 30 minutes before you get to it. You might wanna let the folks at Porsche and Jaguar know.

So we can all agree then. The A/C's on EV's are just as good as ICE cars, unlike what the poster I was responding to said. Thanks.

Screen grabbed these two charts from a recent webinar I watched on the Auto industry.

Interesting and curious of the 2030 trendline is viable.

My other question (that wasn't answered in the webinar) is why do these market share % totals between EV and Gas not equal 100%?

I turned on the AC in my truck while in a plane taxying to the gate. If I've got an internet connection, I can start my truck from anywhere in the world. I had the same ability with my previous truck.

How did they account for hybrid vehicles? Could that explain the difference since a lot of those could be considered either or both?

I drive from NYC to Harrisburg PA, not an issue, not very local, also it's been hot af, but the AC is colder than everything but yet 1996 Suburban I drove in high school.

Additionally EVs are going to save the grid with instantaneous demand response.
