I have to say that I had the best professors of my college/grad school time at SFA. No grad students or TAs. All people who chose to be at SFA because they wanted to teach and not "publish or perish." The student body left a lot to be desired as a whole compared to the quality of students at A&M, but a smart, engaged student who wants to learn could learn a lot there.

I graduated from there last year with my masters (surprisingly, only 3 schools in the state have spring admission for chem masters. Who knew?) and this is pretty much how it is. They have a good music and education programs. The sciences aren't hard, but the major benefit there is it is extremely easy to get into research and the professors are almost always available to talk to. The professors know who you are, the only way you don't do well is if you don't try at all.

I will say that the place is pretty liberal, but what college isn't now? I do hope they don't change their name.

Both of my parents went to SWT as well. I don't think that the Texas State system is named for them though, it predates the name change and the Wiki that someone linked noted that all of the member schools are "horizontal" (there isn't a mothership like UT and A&M).

I can 100% confirm that SFA Would keep it's name if it joined A&M system. I'm not sure why Tech would want SFA as they push that West Texas vs the world view point every chance they can. If SFA goes anywhere other than A&M then the legislature had some backroom deals going on to make it happen.

Why not both?

As mentioned SFA is at RELLIS so we already have some ties there. Let's add them to the system, Ags.

This is misleading. A&I has 7 NAIA championships but zero NCAA titles. SFA has always been in 1-AA or FCS, and has played for one title, losing by a field goal. A&M-Kingsville, since moving to DII, has also played for a title, losing in 1994.

Besides, brand and football team overall record are 2 very different things. There are a lot of people younger than 40 who would have no idea there was an institution called Texas A&I any more than they would know about Southwest Texas State Teachers College (or whatever it was called) and what university it is today.

EDIT: I kid. My wife works for the UT System now, and they have a better insurance than the other state institutions, and even though they are TRS, they have their own special retirement insurance as well.

We had no idea until she made the switch. It's a pretty good deal if you are an employee in that system.

I guess I don't understand why the state has to have four different university $y$tems. Or I guess there are even more.
