or...

you just wait until the first day of classes and submit a formal room/hall change request, as is the documented process.

and this junior (still living on campus) can just deal with it until then.
I'm just wondering what's weirder...the fact that a trans person has a straight roommate, or the fact that a junior guy is still living on campus.

Take it to KBTX and the appropriate religious group/club.
I will warn you

If you take it to KBTX they will not be sympathetic and if they run the story it will be turned against your child as being transphobic.

The majority of the stories they will cover are from Democratic party buddies of the station.
Yep, do not go to the local media.

KBTX will destroy you and your child. They are 100% in with the LGBTQABCDEFG mafia.

The Eagle would be no better.
I wouldn't be shocked if some intrepid reporter read this thread and breathlessly typed up an expose on the rampant transophobia at A&M.

File suit. Seems to be a clear case of violating the First Amendment, no matter how liberal A&M's bureaucracy has become.

Oh man. This is good.
It confuses you? Not allowing someone to opt out for religious reasons is the liberal way.

Would have loved this if this happened in 1986 in Moses Hall. It/They would have moved out in 1 day.

That is definitely a difficult situation. Especially since the person is transitioning to female.

With that said, I think the correct Avenue for your family member is to go back to the University and state that you are not comfortable living with a woman. If they give him any pushback, simply state that this person is a trans woman, and you signed up to live with a man. Then question whether Texas A&M truly advocates for trans rights when they won't recognize that this person is a woman.
He isn't living with a woman, no matter what the guy chooses to cut off.

For religious reasons, he should not have to live with a trans person at all.

I am having trouble with this. We don't want men pretending to be women housed with women, use wome's restrooms or showers, so where should this male be housed?

When I was in school housing had to kick kids off of campus after 4 years. Lots of upperclassmen on campus. I enjoyed living on campus my entire time at A&M.

Meh.. wouldn't care personally. It is just a room and bed. I didn't care when I started working with folks that were full on supergay. I suppose it depends on the individual roommate more than the gender stuff as long as they weren't pushing you to be involved in propaganda efforts and bumper stickers.

If it was a big deal to the family, I'd approach it as an effort to shield the other individual to conflicting beliefs that might make "her" uncomfortable.

Trans constantly have a victim mindset. Living with one is an extreme risk to one's academic and professional career. Just having different opinions could be enough to set him up for bigot accusations. Or just one slip of "he" could set him up. We constantly see scenarios of how these people (yeah, "these people", I said it) freak out about their pronouns. Good luck not messing that up for 9 months even if you are trying to play along with telhe mental illness

Again, go find an off campus lease at one of the many places that essentially rents by the room

Sooo

It's a he that thinks he's a she…..why then is it living in a guys dorm with a guy roommate? Shouldn't it be housed in an all female dorm with a female room mate if that's what it thinks it is?
"I was told" that A&M housing felt it was less uncomfortable to put with males. I'd agree I guess.

So A&M housing doesn't agree that he is a female.

Funny. I didn't realize the A&M housing department was in the biology building. Who knew?

And people say there is no bias anymore against the LGTB whatever community... sad. I used to be biased against them, until my child has a friend who is Trans and met their parents. Learned alot, could be a good opportunity for them..

So, a guy that thinks he's a she is treated like a male by A&M for housing?

Sounds like A&M is transphobic.

I can see the headline now. Texas A&M forces girl to house with boys.

Contact the governors office and, assuming you live in a conservative district, your state rep. Lt governor might want a minor news mention as well and be willing to apply some pressure. A&M admin and board won't care unless people who control their appointments and budget apply pressure.

If there is more than one trans-whatever at the school, they just need to put them in a room together.

So the he thinks he is s she, but wants to room with a he?

That sounds strange, perhaps he who thinks he is a she should room with a she to make him happy.

Geez I am confused already.

Just claim he can't be roommates with a female and force A&M to say that she's a man. Then the roommate can sue A&M and move on. Profit.

Rm 424 here

Open group showers
Toilets without stalls

Yes - this would have quickly become a big problem.

No hate from this family. They are a very strong, conservative Catholic Latino family and would prefer a different roommate. More discussions today with housing.

Thanks for advice. Media and lawyers are probably the wrong direction.

I agree with many that it is probably best to work a room/dorm change within the system.

A&M is just a passenger on this ride following the laws.

This is a great idea and would probably get an immediate change so they don't have to go through the mental gymnastics of saying a trans woman is a woman while also making a man and woman be roommates in a college dorm.
